Serie A giants AC Milan are considering a summer swoop for Manchester City defender Nathan Ake, according to CaughtOffside.
The Netherlands international has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot for the Premier League giants owing to injuries and the options available to head coach Pep Guardiola.
Ake has been restricted to just four league starts for the Cityzens this season, though he did play the full 90 minutes in Saturday’s FA Cup win at Newcastle.
Guehi signing pushed Ake down the pecking order
What’s more, the January addition of Marc Guehi pushed Ake further down the pecking order, with the former Bournemouth man now expected to depart for pastures new at the end of the season.
And a move to Italy has been mooted with AC Milan said to be keeping tabs on the versatile Dutch defender, who can operate at both centre-back and left-back.
Ake’s contract expires in 2027 and in all likelihood, City are expected to entertain offers for the 31-year-old when the season draws to a close.
This appeals to AC Milan as the Rossoneri ponder a defensive restructure in their bid to build upon what has been a successful season so far.
AC Milan boost Scudetto bid
Max Allegri’s side sit second in Italy’s top tier this term and closed the gap to rivals Inter at the top of the table to just seven points following Sunday’s 1-0 Milan Derby triumph.
Former Brighton man Pervis Estupinan scored the only goal of the game as Allegri oversaw a key win in AC Milan’s bid to land the Scudetto.
AC Milan will hope to make it three league victories on the spin when they travel to the capital on Sunday night to face Lazio.
Rivals Inter, meanwhile, are out to return to winning ways when they welcome Atalanta to the Giuseppe Meazza on Saturday.
Victory over Atalanta would see the Nerazzuri re-open up a 10-point lead at the summit of Serie A in their bid to wrestle the Scudetto back from Napoli.
