The Champions League returns this evening with Manchester City and Liverpool both in action.

As well as casting an eye over both of their upcoming encounters, we take an in-depth look at all of Wednesday’s games in our statistical preview.

Paris Saint-Germain vs Manchester City (8pm)

First up is a repeat of last season’s semi-final as City head to the Parc des Princes to take on Paris Saint-Germain.

It is a home squad packed with global superstars but, while they have made a perfect start to their Ligue 1 campaign, Mauricio Pochettino’s men laboured to a 1-1 draw with Club Brugge in their opening European contest a fortnight ago.

In that clash, it was a former PSG academy graduate who proved a thorn in the side of Les Parisiens with central defender Stanley Nsoki playing a key role in the underdogs’ impressive rearguard effort.

We turn the spotlight on a handful of the French giants’ former youngsters who are now making waves elsewhere in Europe.

Porto vs Liverpool (8pm)

Liverpool were made to work hard in their opening Champions League group stage contest but eventually managed to edge out AC Milan 3-2 at Anfield.

Now, they travel to Portugal to take on Porto in the Estadio do Dragao — a stadium in which the Reds have earned emphatic victories on their last two trips.

Ahead of this evening’s meeting, we take a closer look at Liverpool’s Japanese international Takumi Minamino, who will be desperate to make only his second appearance of the season in all competitions.

Having netted twice against Norwich in the Carabao Cup, should the explosive forward be given more opportunities to impress by Jurgen Klopp?
