Madison Keys is now a Grand Slam winner as she looks to reach her second US Open final

Iga Swiatek will be eying a second US Open title this year and, for the first time since before she last won it in 2022, she is not the top seed.

That honour goes to world number one Aryna Sabalenka, who played just the one hard-court event in Cincinnati to tune up for the defence of her Grand Slam title.

The Belarusian has been handed a brutal draw with the likes of former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina, recent Cincinnati finalist Jasmine Paolini and last year’s US Open finalist Jessica Pegula all in her half.

The presence of young stars Mirra Andreeva and Canadian Open champion Victoria Mboko in the top half of the draw could make things doubly difficult for her in the second week.

Swiatek seeks second bite of the Big Apple

Swiatek’s path to the business end of the tournament does not appear to throw up as many potential banana skins and the other big name in her half of the draw — Coco Gauff — has been struggling on serve.

The 2023 US Open champion even made the drastic move to sack a couple of her coaches and hire a biomechanical expert on the eve of the tournament to sort it out.

The Pole’s all-round game looks to be in great order after her recent win in Cincinnati and her volleying was solid in the recent mixed doubles event.

She has played just eight matches since Wimbledon, keeping her fresh for the humidity and grind of Flushing Meadows.

With added aggression on her return and improved movement on faster surfaces since her last Flushing Meadows victory, she looks well-positioned to reclaim the crown.

Keys has everything in her locker

Madison Keys will be out to impress on her first appearance at her home slam as a major winner.

The American finally earned her first Grand Slam title in Australia earlier this year and there is a good chance she can go one better than her 2017 final appearance in New York if she rediscovers that early-season form.

Keys has twice reached US Open semi-finals (2018 and 2023) since her loss to pal Sloane Stephens eight years ago. She has the weapons and big-match temperament to go deep again at relatively long odds to reach the final again.

Last eight beckons for Rybakina

Rybakina has never made much of an impact at Flushing Meadows, but that could be about to change this year.

The 26-year-old beat Keys and Sabalenka in Cincinnati after giving eventual champion Victoria Mboko her hardest match at the Canadian Open.

Her path to the quarter-finals seems pretty straightforward. An improving Emma Raducanu could be an early opponent but she dropped only one game the last time they met.

Potential fourth-round opponent Paolini could be a problem, but the Moscow-born star has a solid game and looks value to reach the last eight.

Back Elena Rybakina to reach the quarterfinal - Yes at 9/5 with LiveScore Bet.
