England have made five changes to their starting XV for Saturday's Six Nations clash against Scotland.

Full-back Freddie Steward has been dropped from the matchday squad, replaced by Northampton ace George Furbank.

Centre Fraser Dingwall — who scored a second-half try in the 16-14 win over Wales last time out — is also omitted in favour of Ollie Lawrence.

Injured scrum-half Alex Mitchell makes way for Danny Care, while props Dan Cole and Ellis Genge come into the front row for Joe Marler and Will Stuart.

Boss Steve Borthwick said of 27-year-old Furbank: "He and I talked about eight months ago, about where I saw him.

"He's changed physically, adapted the way he's played slightly and I see him playing exceptionally well.

"From a coaching point of view, seeing these players emerge is brilliant."

Borthwick added before the trip to Murrayfield, where England are seeking to make it three wins from three: "We're pleased with the start we've made to our Six Nations campaign but know that a difficult Test awaits us in Edinburgh against an in-form Scotland team.

"The atmosphere is always special for any Calcutta Cup match and I'm sure this weekend's game at Murrayfield will be no different.

"This group of players are looking forward to the challenge on Saturday and to creating some very special memories."

For the hosts, who lost to France in round two having won in Wales, full-back Blair Kinghorn makes his first appearance of this year's tournament.

Winger Kyle Steyn and former skipper Jamie Ritchie are also included in Gregor Townsend's starting XV.

Townsend said: "The focus is on this game because it's our most important game of the season, most important game for our supporters.

"We do play for a trophy in among the championship and Triple Crown and other trophies but this one is one that we're focused on more than the others.

"It probably shouldn't be the case but it is. It's history, it's emotion and we've seen the impact on Scottish supporters when we do manage to get a victory in this fixture so that'll drive us on Saturday."

Scotland XV: Kinghorn, Steyn, Jones, Tuipulotu, Van der Merwe, Russell (co-captain), White; Schoeman, Turner, Fagerson, Gilchrist, Cummings, Ritchie, Darge (co-captain), Dempsey.
