Brighton vs Liverpool - 12:30 pm (Premier League)
Liverpool blitzed Galatasaray (4-0) in the Champions League in midweek, though their lunchtime tussle with Brighton on the south coast in the Premier League on Saturday might be a sizzler for different reasons.
In-form Albion will be eager to prey on any fatigue in Pool’s ranks and the Amex Stadium hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for the Merseysiders in recent seasons. Liverpool lost last year’s corresponding fixture 3-2 and have won on only one of their last five trips to Brighton overall. All five of those encounters produced over 2.5 goals and this weekend’s tussle is backed to follow suit.
FC Koln vs Borussia Monchengladbach - 2:30 pm (Bundesliga)
Borussia Monchengladbach’s Bundesliga fixtures have been producing 2.80 goals per 90 minutes this season, though their last encounter with FC Koln in November trumped that average, with four goals rattling the net in a 3-1 victory for Gladbach.
Koln will be out to bite back on Saturday and their pursuit of revenge could make for an open contest at the RheinEnergieSTADION. Five of the host’s last six assignments at that venue have seen at least three goals, so expect more action there when Gladbach visit on Saturday.
Sheffield United vs Wrexham - 3:00 pm (Championship)
Wrexham’s epic 5-3 win over Sheffield United in Wales on Boxing Day was one of the most thrilling games of the Championship season so far, and Saturday’s rematch at Bramall Lane has the ingredients of another chaotic clash.
Four of Wrexham’s last six away fixtures in the division have rewarded over 2.5 goal bettors, while eight of the Blades’ last nine games in Sheffield in league and cup have produced a minimum of three goals, with those matches averaging 3.66 goals per 90 minutes.
Rangers vs Aberdeen - 5:45 (Premiership)
Rangers cannot afford any slipups in their three-way title battle with Hearts and Celtic near the summit of the Premiership, so expect the Gers to push hard for goals and points when they host Aberdeen.
Danny Röhl’s Rangers are reliable scorers at Ibrox and have notched at least twice in each of their last six Premiership fixtures there. Struggling Aberdeen continue to toil and have failed to win 13 of their last 14 league games. The Dons could be swatted aside by a motivated Rangers here.
Juventus vs Sassuolo - 7:45 pm (Serie A)
Finally, we land in Turin, where an encounter between Juventus and Sassuolo in Serie A has the potential to thrill. Juve’s class shone through when they beat the same opponents 3-0 in January and their margin of victory could have been wider had the Old Lady made more of their 10 shots on target.
Juventus have been averaging better than two goals per home game this term and should have chances to register against a watery Sassuolo defence. Six of the visitors’ last seven league matches have vaulted a target of over 2.5 goals, and similar is anticipated here.
