Exeter will be aiming to bounce back from their 5-1 hammering against Bolton when they host Burton in League One on Tuesday evening.
League Two leaders Bromley face a tricky test when they host an Oldham outfit that’s chasing a fourth successive victory.
Fresh from beating Notts County, Grimsby will be targeting another big scalp when they take on Salford in League Two.
There is another light collection of League One and League Two fixtures pencilled in for Tuesday evening, with eight games in all split between the two divisions.
Three matches are on the menu in League One, including Barnsley’s clash with Wycombe, while League Two serves up five games, with all eight fixtures from the third and fourth tiers set to kick off at 19:45 pm.
Below, we’ve lined up predictions for all eight midweek contests starting that trio of head-to-heads from League One.
Barnsley vs Wycombe (League One - 19:45 pm)
A superb hattrick from veteran frontman David McGolderick fired Barnsley to a fine 3-1 win at Leyton Orient on Saturday, giving the Tykes their first away win in League One since November. Energised by that rare result, Barnsley can approach their midweek assignment with confidence.
Wycombe won successive home games against Stevenage (3-1) and Burton (3-0) in their last two fixtures, though they rarely convince on the road, and have failed to win 90% of their last ten away matches in the division. Seven of those finished all square, and another share of the spoils could be in the offing at Oakwell.
Score prediction: Barnsley 1-1 Wycombe
Exeter vs Burton (League One 19:45 pm)
Caretaker Exeter boss Daniel Green apologised to the club’s fans after Saturday’s dismal 5-1 reverse at home to Bolton, though the Grecians have an opportunity to restore some pride on Tuesday evening against a Burton outfit that continues to struggle on the road.
Albion were well-beaten at Wycombe (0-3) at the weekend and they have lost six and drawn three of their last nine away tests in League One overall in a run stretching all the way back to early November. Exter can edge this one.
Score prediction: Exeter 2-1 Burton
Rotherham vs Mansfield (League One - 19:45 pm)
Rotherham snapped a four-game losing streak on Saturday when they found a way to topple in-form Plymouth. The Millers deserved their 1-0 triumph in a game that produced 38 shots for both teams combined. The hosts scored after just seven minutes through Joe Rafferty and showed spirit to hold firm.
Rotherham will hope to use that stirring performance as a platform against Mansfield. Visiting Town competed well in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with AFC Wimbledon, but they’ve now gone eight games in League One without winning. They might drop more points at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.
Score prediction: Rotherham 1-1 Mansfield
Bromley vs Oldham (League Two - 19:45 pm)
Leaders Bromley halted a frustrating run of three successive draws when they beat Accrington Stanley 2-1 on Saturday, though the title chasers did need two Michael Cheek penalty kicks to see off their ten-man opponents.
Still, they would have been relieved to return to winning ways and they can maintain their momentum in another home fixture on Tuesday. Visiting Oldham have won three times on the spin, however, to continue that streak, Athletic will have to end Bromley’s proud unbeaten home record. Oldham lost heavily at Swindon (0-3) when they last visited a team in the top four, so expect them to toil again.
Score prediction: Bromley 2-0 Oldham
Chesterfield vs Colchester (League Two - 19:45 pm)
Chesterfield were perhaps a little unlucky to lose at Barnet on Saturday, having conceded just a single shot on target, however, back at the SMH Group Stadium, where the Spireites have lost only twice all season, Town can push for something better.
Colchester have failed to win six of their last seven away assignments in League Two, and were unable to score in two of their last three tussles on the road. Chesterfield meanwhile, kept clean sheets in 50% of their last six matches at home and they could lean on their solid defence for success again here.
Score prediction: Chesterfield 1-0 Colchester
Grimsby vs Salford (League Two - 19:45 pm)
Grimsby upset the odds at the weekend when they dug in and scored late on to beat promotion hopefuls Notts County (1-0) on their own patch, and buoyed by that surprise showing, Town will back themselves to test another playoff contender, Salford, at Blundell Park.
Salford went out with a defensive mindset and a risk-averse 5-4-1 formation at Colchester on Saturday and enjoyed a 1-0 win despite posting just 37% possession. They might use a similar blueprint on Tuesday, so another game of few chances is anticipated.
Score prediction: Grimsby 0-0 Salford
Newport vs Tranmere (League Two - 19:45 pm)
Newport picked up a point at Fleetwood on Saturday, though they were lucky to escape with that, having conceded 25 attempts. Keeper Jordan Wright was in inspired form for County, and earning a draw in those circumstances should have a positive impact on morale in the camp.
Tranmere meanwhile, continue to slump and their 2-1 defeat at Crewe last time out was their ninth defeat in ten League Two fixtures. Another loss at Newport would drag them deeper into relegation troubles, though there have been few signs to suggest that Rovers can halt their descent. A sixth straight away loss could be on the cards for Tranmere.
Score prediction: Newport 1-0 Tranmere
Walsall vs Fleetwood (League Two - 19:45 pm)
Walsall secured a first win since mid-January when they triumphed at Shrewsbury on Saturday. Raiding right back Priestley Farquharson scored both goals, though manager Mat Sadler will need more from his frontline against Fleetwood on Tuesday evening.
The visitors dropped two points against bottom club Newport (0-0) on Saturday, despite peppering their opponent’s goal with 25 shots. Fleetwood have claimed seven points from the last nine on offer on their travels however, and they should be more than a match for Walsall here.
Score prediction: Walsall 1-1 Fleetwood
