Grimsby are targeting a third successive victory when they host a wobbly-looking Bromley side in one of Saturday’s two lunchtime kick-offs.
Can struggling playoff hopefuls Salford rouse themselves to topple Barnet at the Peninsula Stadium on Saturday?
MK Dons are favourites to strengthen their push for the title with a home win against rock-bottom Harrogate.
The latest round of fixtures in League Two begins with a rare Friday evening faceoff, which features Cheltenham and Barrow, before it’s usual flurry of Saturday action.
Among the 11 games pencilled in for the weekend are Grimsby’s lunchtime date with stuttering leaders Bromley, and Tranmere’s clash with Oldham just days after Rovers parted ways with manager Andy Crosby.
Below, we’ve assembled predictions for all 12 League Two fixtures on March 6th and 7th, starting with Friday’s contest at the EV Charger Points Stadium.
Cheltenham vs Barrow (Friday, 7:45 pm)
Cheltenham earned a share of the spoils at bottom-club Harrogate (1-1) last week, though they might have lost had keeper Joe Day not been at his best. Town will expect better against a Barrow outfit that has lost nine of its last ten assignments in League Two, however. The visitors have lost three games on the spin under new boss Dino Maamria, and they could struggle again here.
Score prediction: Cheltenham 2-1 Barrow
Grimsby vs Bromley (Saturday, 12:30 pm)
Buoyed by back-to-back wins over playoff Notts County (1-0) and Salford (3-1), Grimsby should pose a threat to a Bromley side that seems to be wilting under the pressure of a title race. The visitors’ lead at the summit has been slashed following a run of four draws in five, and they could drop more points here.
Score prediction: Grimsby 1-1 Bromley
Salford vs Barnet (Saturday, 12:30 pm)
Salford’s slide continued in midweek when they were picked off by a clinical Grimsby (3-1) and a similar result on Saturday would see them leapfrogged in the table by Barnet. The visitors enjoyed successive 1-0 wins over Accrington and Chesterfield in their last two matches, and if they defend as solidly at the Peninsula Stadium, they could frustrate an ailing City.
Score prediction: Salford 0-1 Barnet
Accrington vs Cambridge Utd (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Accrington were beaten by league leaders Bromley (2-1) last time out and they could find the going tough against another title challenger when they host Cambridge. The Accies have lost three times in a row, while Cambridge have been beaten only once in their last 20 League Two tests, so side with the more formidable visitors here.
Score prediction: Accrington 1-2 Cambridge Utd
Bristol Rovers vs Crewe (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Bristol Rovers picked up a useful point at Swindon (1-1) a week ago, though they might have pushed for three, having had a man advantage for the last half an hour. A Crewe side that has won four of its last five fixtures looks like another tricky mission for the Pirates. Alexandra are unbeaten in four on the road and they can leave Bristol with something on Saturday.
Score prediction: Bristol Rovers 1-1 Crewe
Chesterfield vs Shrewsbury (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Chesterfield produced a complete performance to beat Colchester 3-0 on Tuesday evening to extend their unbeaten run at home to five matches. Shrewsbury meanwhile, were stopped by Walsall (1-2) last time out, ending their excellent five-game winning streak, while they also lost key defender Josh Ruffels to a late red card. Chesterfield could nick this one.
Score prediction: Chesterfield 1-0 Shrewsbury
Crawley vs Swindon (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Swindon’s promotion push has been slowed by a run of just one win in four games, though the Robins have a chance to reset their ambitions on Saturday. Relegation candidates Crawley have won just once in six attempts and have failed to win eight of their last nine League Two fixtures on home soil.
Score prediction: Crawley 1-2 Swindon
Gillingham vs Fleetwood (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Gillingham snapped a three-game losing streak with a 1-0 triumph at an out-of-form Barrow last week, though Fleetwood should pose a stiffer challenge. The visitors have claimed ten of the last 12 points on offer, keeping three clean sheets in four games in the process. They needed just one shot on target to win at Walsall in midweek and they could deliver something similar at the Priestfield Stadium.
Score prediction: Gillingham 0-1 Fleetwood
MK Dons vs Harrogate (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
MK Dons (3rd) netted a 95th-minute penalty-kick equaliser at Cambridge (2nd) last time out to keep themselves firmly in the automatic promotion hunt, and they can strengthen their claims on Saturday against rock-bottom Harrogate. The Sulphurites have been spirited of late, however, MK Dons haven’t lost a league game at home since September, so expect Harrogate to struggle.
Score prediction: MK Dons 2-0 Harrogate
Newport vs Colchester (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Newport delivered in their must-win encounter with relegation rivals Tranmere (3-1) on Tuesday evening and rejuvenated County have now lost just once in four games. Colchester meanwhile, have lost three of their last four away matches, failing to score in each defeat, so Newport could force another significant victory in the battle for survival on Saturday.
Score prediction: Newport 1-0 Colchester
Tranmere vs Oldham (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Tranmere sacked manager Andy Crosby after Tuesday’s loss at Newport. That was Rovers’ tenth loss in 11 games in League Two, so a change was warranted. Andy Parkinson steps in as interim boss for the time being and will take charge against Oldham. The visitors are unbeaten in five, though the managerial shakeup at Tranmere does cloud the picture here. Don’t be surprised if Tranmere rise to claim a point.
Score prediction: Tranmere 1-1 Oldham
Walsall vs Notts County (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Notts County need a spark to reignite their title challenge following a return of just one win from four games, though they could get themselves going again at Walsall. The Saddlers have failed to win eight of their last nine league matches, while each of their last three home assignments have ended in defeat. The Magpies can get back on track here.
Score prediction: Walsall 0-1 Notts County
