Cardiff will be aiming to reclaim top spot in League One when they travel to Yorkshire to take on Barnsley on Tuesday evening.
New leaders Lincoln meanwhile, will be determined to stay ahead of their title rivals with a victory at Exeter the same day.
On Wednesday, Sunderland’s FA Cup conquerors Port Vale get back to their bread and butter with a test against Bradford in League One.
There are 12 fixtures from League One and League Two to sink our teeth into in midweek, with the games split between Tuesday and Wednesday evening.
Most of the action comes from England’s third tier, with eight matches from that division on the docket, including Cardiff’s trips to Barnsley and Lincoln’s trek to Exeter.
League Two serves up a quarter of contests on Tuesday, including red-hot MK Dons’ skirmish with Gillingham and Salford’s encounter with Walsall in the north west.
Below, we’ve lined up predictions for all 12 midweek matches, starting Tuesday’s ten game flurry.
Tuesday, March 10th
Barnsley vs Cardiff (League One - 19:45 pm)
Cardiff were knocked off top spot in League One on Saturday when they were turned over by new leaders Lincoln (0-2) in Wales, and Barnsley could put another dent in their title hopes at Oakwell. The Tykes have lost only one of their last seven assignments at that venue and in David McGoldrick, they have won of the division’s form attackers.
Score prediction: Barnsley 2-2 Cardiff
Doncaster vs Luton (League One 19:45 pm)
Doncaster took the lead but were eventually ousted by Plymouth (1-2) at the weekend, though Rovers could improve to force a better result against a Luton side that doesn’t travel well. The Hatters have picked up just two of the last 27 points on offer to them on the road. That equates to a return of seven defeats and two defeats from their last nine away matches in League One, so side with Doncaster here.
Score prediction: Doncaster 2-1 Luton
Exeter vs Lincoln (League One - 19:45 pm)
Lincoln put a major marker down in the League One title race with a richly-deserved 2-0 win at their chief rivals for silverware, Cardiff, in Wales on Saturday. Unbeaten in the third tier since mid-November, the impressive Imps have won 14 of their last 18 fixtures in the division. Exeter meanwhile, are winless in their last nine attempts and they lack the class and confidence to match visiting Lincoln.
Score prediction: Exeter 0-2 Lincoln
Mansfield vs Reading (League One - 19:45 pm)
Mansfield were valiant in defeat against Arsenal in the FA Cup at the weekend, but having put so much energy into their meeting with the Gunners, Town could be low on gas when they host Reading. The in-form Royals are unbeaten in six matches, winning four times along the way, and they can take advantage of their host’s cup hangover.
Score prediction: Mansfield 0-1 Reading
Stevenage vs Leyton Orient (League One - 19:45 pm)
Stevenage strengthened their playoff push with a 1-0 win at Burton on Saturday, restricting their opponents to just five shots at the Pirelli Stadium. Borough are hitting form at the right time and they can chase down a fifth win in six League One fixtures on Tuesday evening. Struggling Orient have lost six of their last eight matches and look ill-equipped to make an impact here.
Score prediction: Stevenage 2-0 Leyton Orient
Wigan vs Plymouth (League One - 19:45 pm)
Gary Caldwell’s Wigan earned a share of the spoils at Lancashire rivals Blackpool (1-1) at the weekend, though the defensive improvements they’ve made under their recent rehire will be tested by Plymouth. Visiting Argyle got back on the victory trail against Doncaster (2-1) on Saturday, and they’ve scored at least twice in four of their last five games in League One.
Score prediction: Wigan 1-2 Plymouth
Barrow vs Bristol Rovers (League Two - 19:45 pm).
Barrow dug deep to draw at Cheltenham (2-2) on Saturday and one point there might have been three had they not conceded a 90th-minute equaliser. Now, they have a chance to go one better against relegation rivals Bristol Rovers. The visitors are strong at home, but Rovers have lost four of their last five on the road and their travel sickness could be their undoing again.
Score prediction: Barrow 2-1 Bristol Rovers
Fleetwood vs Cheltenham (League Two - 19:45 pm)
A late Shaun Rooney strike allowed Fleetwood to nab a point at Gillingham (1-1) on Saturday and pushed Town’s unbeaten streak to a lengthening six games. Cheltenham meanwhile, rescued a point against Barrow last time out (2-2) to post a fourth draw in five fixtures. Another point a piece might suit these mid-table dwellers on Tuesday.
Score prediction: Fleetwood 1-1 Cheltenham
Gillingham vs MK Dons (League Two - 19:45 pm)
MK Dons (2nd) need to make full use of Tuesday’s game in hand to close to within two points of leaders Bromley, and they are backed to take their chance at Gillingham. The Dons are unbeaten in ten games, winning seven times in the process and they could have too much in their locker for a Gills outfit that was bested in three of its last five runouts.
Score prediction: Gillingham 1-2 MK Dons
Salford vs Walsall (League Two - 19:45 pm)
First-half goals from Rosaire Longelo and Matt Butcher handed Salford a much-needed win over Barnet (2-0) on Saturday and another victory over Walsall at the Peninsula Stadium could follow. The visiting Saddlers were flattened by a 93rd-minute decider in Saturday’s loss to Notts County. That was Walsall’s third defeat in four games in League Two and they could wilt again on Tuesday evening.
Score prediction: Salford 2-0 Walsall
Wednesday, March 11th
AFC Wimbledon vs Blackpool (League One - 19:45 pm)
Wimbledon have been producing the goods on home soil of late and their 1-0 win over Northampton at the weekend, powered by Callum Maycock’s goal, was their third on the spin at the Cherry Red Records Stadium. Blackpool meanwhile, are suddenly without a win in three and their win over Mansfield (1-0) on February 17th already feels like a lifetime ago.
Score prediction: AFC Wimbledon 1-0 Blackpool
Port Vale vs Bradford City (League One 19:45 pm)
Port Vale’s improvement since appointing Jon Brady in January has been stark and their shock FA Cup victory over Sunderland at the weekend highlighted their growing confidence. In League One, Vale have lost only once in five fixtures, and if they can fight off the fatigue on Tuesday evening, they could extend their fine form at playoff-chasing Bradford’s expense.
Score prediction Port Vale 1-1 Bradford City
