In a rematch from Week One, the NFC-leading, 8-2 Philadelphia Eagles will go head-to-head with the 4-5-1 Dallas Cowboys. Not only is Philly on a four-game win streak, but they beat two excellent teams in back-to-back weeks by defeating the Green Bay Packers on the road and the Detroit Lions at home. Simultaneously, Dallas looked very impressive coming out of the bye week with a 33-16 drubbing of the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday Night Football.

The Eagles' defense is playing like the best unit in the National Football League over the last two weeks, holding the Packers and Lions to 16 total points. Philly ranks eighth in points allowed per game (20.1) and first in completion percentage allowed (56.6%). They have also been much better against the run, allowing 83.8 rushing yards per game during this recent win streak.

“I think, as a unit, we're just playing it better,” said defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. “Obviously, Nakobe (Dean) helps. The last two weeks, (Jaelan) Phillips helps. I think Jalen Carter has really kicked up his game here lately. So, it's a combination of a bunch of things… It was just overall good play by the guys. They executed the calls correctly with good energy and physicalness… I think it's just good execution, and our guys believe that they can stop a short yardage play.”

It has been months since the Cowboys and Eagles first faced each other. The last time these two went head-to-head, Philadelphia beat Dallas at home 24-20. Regardless, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni knows that these two teams look very different 11 weeks later, especially after an active trade deadline by the 'Boys.

“Obviously, some different personnel in there. And as you grow throughout the season, [you’re] doing some different things,” Sirianni said on Wednesday. “You’ve got a little bit more tape on them, obviously, now than we did going into the first game. [We] had to look at some bare stuff and some different things there. But they look different, not only personnel-wise, but as you looked at them going into the first game, there was a lot of unknown.”

Containing the offense is often the key to beating the Dallas Cowboys, which is difficult considering they're third in yards per game (378.7) and second in points per game (29.6). Vic Fangio said that he has a lot of respect for that unit and understands how the Cowboys' offense can dictate games.

“They're one of the best offenses in the league,” he said. “I mean, they're like two in yards, two in points, or three, first in passing, but 12th in rushing. They’ve got balance. They're really a good offense with those dynamic receivers, the tight end, Javonte (Williams) at running back, and (Dak) Prescott makes it go. He's having a hell of a year.”

Last Monday, the Cowboys had their best defensive performance of the season, holding the Raiders to just 16 points. On top of that, Dallas recorded four sacks and limited Las Vegas to 27 rushing yards.

“How about the defense? I don't even know how many hits they had on the quarterback. I know Geno (Smith) is going to be sore,” Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said after the win. “Just really, really proud of that group and what they've had to go through. It was pretty cool to see those guys really step up and the fire that they played with tonight.”

Interestingly, star wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens were benched during Dallas' first drive of the game after they reportedly missed their Sunday night curfew.

“It's tough. [We] made a coach's decision,” Schottenheimer explained. “There were some things that were missed. So, I had a conversation with those guys, and that was easy. But, you look at the energy those guys play with. They literally jump-started the offense when they got back in there. They didn't hang their heads. They didn't do any of that stuff, and that's why I love those guys, man.”

Though these games always have a lot of meaning, CeeDee Lamb argued that this matchup will have the feel of a playoff game. Quarterback Dak Prescott agreed with that opinion.

"Just on the simple fact of the position that we've put ourselves in. Understanding, for us to get into this postseason, what we have to do,” he said on Thursday. “Right now, sure, we control it, but that means we have to go win every game. Like CeeDee said, it's like a playoff game… However you want to think about it, all of these are must-win, but we’ve got to take them one at a time. Right now, it's Philly. Hell of an opponent, great division rival, and [there’s] no better place to start than right now.”

Prediction for Philadelphia Eagles (-3) @ Dallas Cowboys

This will be a much better litmus test to track the improvement of the new-look Cowboys defense. With offensive tackle Lane Johnson out, it might be hard for Philly to establish the run against Dallas, so it'll be on DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown to get things done through the air. That shouldn't be much of an issue since Jalen Hurts is fifth in passer rating this season (107) while the Cowboys' defense ranks 30th in passer rating allowed (108). All Philly needs to do is limit the effectiveness of Dallas' wideouts, which they should be able to do, considering their third in passer rating allowed this season (77.8). The Cowboys will play the Eagles tough and cover the spread, but Philly will ultimately win.

Prediction: Eagles 29 - 27 Cowboys
