Detroit Lions vs. Philadelphia Eagles Preview, Predictions, and How to Watch

In a game that will undoubtedly have a huge effect on how playoff seeding shakes out in the NFC, the 6-3 Detroit Lions will be going on the road to take on the 7-2 Philadelphia Eagles. Both squads come into this after making statement wins in Week Ten. The Lions got revenge on the Washington Commanders for their loss in the 2025 NFL Playoffs, while the Eagles went into Lambeau Field and beat the Green Bay Packers 10-7.
Philadelphia hasn't blown anybody away statistically this season, but that hasn't affected its ability to rack up victories. Lions head coach Dan Campbell recognizes that Philly has done an excellent job of establishing a winning culture.
“Really good team. I think what's most glaring about them is that they win. They know how to win. They've got a style. They have an identity. They know how to take it to the end of the game, possess the ball, and finish it with it in their hand with a dub. They've been able to do that. They've mastered it,” he said. “Coach Sirianni has done a hell of a job with that crew. They're very talented… So, this will be a huge test for us on the road at their place, against a championship team. We're excited about it.”
Statistically speaking, the Lions should have an advantage in this game, especially at the QB spot. Detroit quarterback Jared Goff has a higher QBR (68.2) and passer rating (117.7 than Philly's Jalen Hurts (63.4 and 112, respectively).
“I just feel like he's gotten better every year,” Campbell said of Goff. “I think he's settled into his own to where he just continues to take it another notch and just continues to get better… It's just unbelievable what he's able to grasp [and] retain [and] get us into the right play… He leans on what his abilities and skills are. He's just playing at a high level.”
Whenever talking about the Philadelphia Eagles, the offensive line is one of the first things that gets brought up. Though that group has dealt with some injuries this season, it is still the lifeblood of that team.
“[It’s] probably one of the most violent units I've seen as far as offensive line. Obviously coached by one of, if not, the best. They're right there. 1A, 1B, whatever you want to call it,” explained Lions defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard. “Everybody wants to say, ‘What makes a good coach?’ You’ve got to turn their players’ film on. That's what makes a good coach.”
Another point of emphasis will be shutting down Eagles running back Saquon Barkley. Though he isn't having a historic season like he did last year, he still ranks 16th in rushing yards per game (64.3).
“I don't care about the numbers and what they say. I know what that tape says. If you give 26 a lane, he's gonna find it," Sheppard said. "He has home run ability. He's one of the most elite backs in this league, in this game. He's a generational talent.”
The Eagles will be at a slight disadvantage because they only had six days to prep for this game after beating the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football. However, Philadelphia head coach Nick Sirianni knows a short week will not justify a loss to the Lions.
“Obviously, when we get back late on a Monday, you're a day behind, but you're hoping that everything that you did prior to that gets you caught up,” he said on Wednesday. “Now, the little bit different way the schedule goes is, maybe at this particular time, we'd have first, second, and third down done. Well, now you have first and second down done, and everything kicks back a little bit deeper into the week."
There won't be a ton of film of the Lions' high-octane offense after head coach Dan Campbell took over playcalling duties last week. That type of change will make preparing for Detroit that much more difficult.
“Well, they had 550 yards, I think, and about half of it was running and half of it was passing, so they were really good,” said Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. “They’ve got a lot of talent on that side of the ball. They’ve got the best o-line in the league. [The] quarterback, according to Dan, is playing the best that he's ever played. The two good running backs. The receivers are all fast. It's a good unit to be calling plays for.”
Despite the fact that these have been two of the NFL's best teams in recent years, they haven't gone head-to-head since 2022. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts said that Philly is well aware of how good the Lions have been over the last few seasons.
“I just think they've got a great mentality about themselves. I’ve got a lot of respect for this team. We haven’t been able to match up with them in the last two years, but it's hard to miss all the success that they've had,” Hurts said. “It's something that we hold in high regard. [We’ve] got a lot of respect for this team coming in. We’ve got to come ready to play.”
Prediction for Detroit Lions @ Philadelphia Eagles (-2.5)
Two of the Lions' three losses have come on the road in outdoor stadiums, so the Eagles will have that working in their favor. Unfortunately for Philly fans, the Eagles are not that great at stopping the run (19th in rushing yards allowed per game). The defense will have a hard time containing a Detroit rushing attack that averages the sixth-most rushing yards per game in the NFL (136.3). The Lions' offensive line should also be able to neutralize Philadelphia's defensive front, which will make Jared Goff's job of connecting with wide receivers a whole lot easier. As long as the Lions' 12th-ranked pass defense doesn't allow Jalen Hurts to beat them deep, Detroit should come away with a victory.
Prediction: Lions 26 - 24 Eagles
