Los Angeles Chargers vs. Jacksonville Jaguars Preview, Predictions, and How to Watch

In a rematch from the 2023 NFL Playoffs, the 5-4 Jacksonville Jaguars will host the streaking 7-3 Los Angeles Chargers. With just seven playoff spots in the AFC, and eight teams in the conference currently above .500, this game will play a huge role in determining who makes the postseason and what playoff seeding will be like.
After starting the year 4-1, Jacksonville has dropped three of its last four games. In their most recent loss, the Jags fell to the Houston Texans 36-29 despite the fact that they led by 19 points during the fourth quarter of that game. First-year head coach Liam Coen doesn't want a loss like that to define Jacksonville's season.
“We just talked about, as a team, that this game can't beat us again. It can't beat us on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. because we're kicking off against the Chargers,” Coen told reporters on Monday. “I have a very quality opponent coming into town. We're at home, and nobody cares. It's just the next opportunity that we have to go try to get a W… It's hard to move forward, but come Wednesday, we're preparing for another opponent.”
Unfortunately for the Jaguars, they are going to have to go into Sunday undermanned at the wide receiver spot and in the secondary. Rookie wideout and cornerback Travis Hunter will reportedly miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair an LCL injury in his right knee. In his absence, the wide receiving corps, as a whole, will have to elevate its performance.
“It's the whole crew. [Let’s] go out and let's go perform,” Coen said on Halloween. “Go back to training camp. Days that Travis was on defense, it was Dyami (Brown), BT (Brian Thomas Jr.), and Parker (Washington) rolling at the receiver positions. [They] did some really good things. I have a lot of confidence in these guys. It's a great opportunity for all of us to work through a little adversity and [for] the guys to go out and perform at a high level.”
Obviously, whenever a team faces the Los Angeles Chargers, they have to worry about defending quarterback Justin Herbert. As of November 13th, 2025, he's second in passing yards this season (2,610) and third in passing touchdowns (19).
“[He’s] very talented, man. He can make every throw, and it seems to be with ease,” Coen said on Wednesday. “He's big, strong, [and] athletic. I think they're playing to his strengths. They've continued to try to put good skill players around him to allow him to take advantage of his skill sets. I've got a lot of respect for him.”
Meanwhile, the Chargers have looked like the Jags' opposite recently, with three wins in their last four games. On Sunday, they had a statement victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers, whom they beat handily, 25-10. The defense was excellent in that game, holding Pittsburgh to ten points and 221 total yards of offense.
“I thought it was probably our best game. [Our] most complete game. Most consistent. [We were] especially great on third down. I mean, nine stops in a row to start the game,” Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said on November 10th. “I thought the rush and the coverage was coordinated really well. Tight coverage, guys stepping up, making plays, [and] the pressure. Those two things were really coordinated well.”
LA plays in the highly contested AFC West, which currently has three teams with winning records. However, Jim Harbaugh argues that all games against AFC opponents are significant, especially matchups like this one against the Jags.
“It's practically the same as we're here in the November month [and] December month,” Harbaugh said on Wednesday. “I mean, all games are important. All games count as one, but these AFC games, teams [are] fighting for playoff spots. I could see your math there working. I could see your math working as two and a half [games], you know?”
Protecting the ball will be essential for the Bolts this weekend. The Jaguars' defense has the second-most takeaways this season (17), behind only the Chicago Bears.
“They've done a really good job of forcing turnovers,” Justin Herbert told reporters on November 12th. “I think they're maybe second in the league in interceptions, and they've got some premier edge rushers [and a] great d-line as well. Guys upfront are able to get after the passer. Ball security and making sure that we're not forcing any turnovers is going to be very important for us. It's an emphasis this week.”
Prediction for Los Angeles Chargers (-3) @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Though the Jags are known for forcing takeaways, they have struggled in that area recently, with only three turnovers in their last four games. On the other side, the Chargers have done an excellent job of taking care of the football with only two giveaways during their three-game winning streak. We also have to mention that the Jaguars have struggled to defend the pass all season (28th in passing yards allowed per game). In all likelihood, Jacksonville will have issues containing Justin Herbert, who is tied for fifth in passing yards per game this year (261). I do expect the Jags to force a turnover or two, but they don't have the offensive firepower to keep pace with the Chargers.
Prediction: Chargers 24 - 22 Jaguars
