NFL owners unanimously approved a proposal yesterday that will allow the Jacksonville Jaguars to play most of their 2027 home games in Orlando, Florida, while the franchise completes a $1.4 billion renovation of Everbank Stadium. The games will be played at Camping World Stadium, just two hours south of the Jags’ current home venue.
According to the Associated Press, Orlando is expected to host seven or eight NFL games during the 2027-28 season. This will also include in-state matchups against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Miami Dolphins, in which the Jaguars will be the home team.
"The Jaguars couldn't ask for a better scenario than Orlando and Camping World Stadium as our temporary home in 2027," franchise owner Shad Khan said in a statement. "This couldn't have happened without the endorsement of the league and team owners who approved our plan two years ago for a renovated Stadium of the Future in Downtown Jacksonville, and we're especially appreciative of the support of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the process. We're also grateful to the team at Florida Citrus Sports that made this solution a reality that will benefit all, including Jaguars fans just a few hours away in Jacksonville. This is a win that everyone can celebrate."
The Jaguars have been seeking a temporary home field since the franchise first announced plans to build the "stadium of the future" in 2023. The team also considered playing home games at Daytona International Speedway and Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, the home of the University of Florida Gators.
The stadium renovations, which were first announced last February, will be ongoing throughout the 2026-27 season, reducing EverBank's seating capacity from 67,838 people to 42,507. The project will be completed in time for the start of the 2028 NFL season, according to the New York Times.
