Miami lets go of Mike McDaniel

January 8th at 10:30 a.m. EDT

The Miami Dolphins have fired head coach Mike McDaniel after four seasons, a 35-33 record, and two playoff appearances. This comes just three days after McDaniel told reporters that he believed he was "the head coach of the Miami Dolphins until told otherwise."

"After careful evaluation and extensive discussions since the season ended, I have made the decision that our organization is in need of comprehensive change. I informed Mike McDaniel this morning that he has been relieved of his duties as head coach," said Dolphins Chairman and Owner Stephen Ross. "I love Mike and want to thank him for his hard work, commitment, and the energy he brought to our organization. Mike is an incredibly creative football mind whose passion for the game and his players was evident every day. I wish him and his family the best moving forward."

Ravens dismiss John Harbaugh after 18 seasons

January 6th at 5:52 p.m. EDT

In one of the most shocking moves of the 2025-26 NFL season, the Baltimore Ravens announced that they had dismissed head coach John Harbaugh after 18 seasons with the team.

"This was an incredibly difficult decision, given the tremendous 18 years we have spent together and the profound respect I have for John as a coach and, most importantly, as a great man of integrity," said owner Steve Bisciotti in a statement. "Throughout what I firmly believe is a Hall of Fame coaching career, John has delivered a Super Bowl championship to Baltimore and served as a steadfast pillar of humility and leadership. He and his family have deeply embedded themselves in this community. For these profound contributions, on and off the field, we should all be forever grateful."

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Harbaugh's agent received phone calls from seven NFL teams in the first 45 minutes after his firing was announced, an interesting development because there are only six NFL head coaching vacancies, excluding the Ravens. Therefore, a team that already has a head coach reached out to gauge Harbaugh's availability and interest.

Kliff Kingsbury leaves Washington

January 6th at 11:56 a.m. EDT

Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury and head coach Dan Quinn met earlier on Tuesday and mutually agreed to part ways, according to sources that spoke to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Kingsbury is expected to receive interest from the Giants and Titans, as well as other teams with head coaching vacancies, sources told Jordan Schultz.

Jonathan Gannon fired by the Cardinals

January 5th at 2:27 p.m. EDT

The Arizona Cardinals announced that they have dismissed head coach Jonathan Gannon after three seasons. During his tenure, he accumulated a 15-36 record and finished the year with losses in 14 of his last 15 games.

"(Gannon) made us better, but this is a league about wins and losses," said owner Michael Bidwell. "The wins and losses speak for themselves, especially this year. We felt we were going in the wrong direction and we needed to change course."

Pete Carroll out as Vegas' head coach

January 5th at 11:16 a.m. EDT

The Las Vegas Raiders announced that they have fired head coach Pete Carroll after just one season. The 74-year-old signed a three-year deal with the Raiders last off-season.

"We appreciate and wish him and his family all the best," wrote owner Mark Davis. "Moving forward, General Manager John Spytek will lead all football operations in close collaboration with Tom Brady, including the search for the club's next head coach. Together, they will guide football decisions with a shared focus on leadership, culture, and alignment with the organization's long-term vision and goals."

Titans request interviews with four experienced coordinators

January 5th at 10:32 a.m. EDT

The Tennessee Titans have requested to speak with Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, and Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy for their head coach opening, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Giants to bring back GM Joe Schoen

January 5th, 10:15 a.m. EDT

The New York Giants will be retaining general manager Joe Schoen, according to sources that spoke to ESPN's Jordan Raanan. This decision was already made known to Schoen by the Giants' ownership group.

“The 2025 season has been deeply disappointing, and the results on the field have not lived up to the standard this organization and our fans expect,” wrote owners John Mara and Steve Tisch in a statement. “As previously stated, Joe Schoen will remain our General Manager and continue to lead our football operations and the search for our next head coach. Continuity and stability in the front office is important to our progress.”

Zac Taylor and Duke Tobin returning to Cincinnati

January 5th at 10:00 a.m. EDT

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Cincinnati Bengals are bringing back head coach Zac Taylor and director of player personnel Duke Tobin for the 2026 season.

"After thoughtful consideration, I am confident that Duke Tobin and Zac Taylor are the right leaders to guide us forward," wrote team president Mike Brown in a statement. "They have proven they can build and lead teams that compete for championships. We trust their plans and expect to return to our desired level of success."

Cleveland relieves head coach Kevin Stefanski but will keep GM Andrew Berry

January 5th at 8:59 a.m. EDT

The Cleveland Browns announced on Monday morning that they have relieved head coach Kevin Stefanski of his duties. In six seasons with the Browns, he was named the NFL Coach of the Year twice and led Cleveland to the playoffs twice. General manager Andrew Berry will remain with the team as the leader of football operations and will be in charge of the Browns' search for a new head coach.

"We have tremendous gratitude for Kevin's leadership of the Cleveland Browns over the last six seasons," wrote managing and principal partners Dee and Jimmy Haslam in a statement. "He is a good football coach and an even better person. We appreciate all his hard work and dedication to our organization, but our results over the last two seasons have not been satisfactory, and we believe a change at the head coaching position is necessary. We wish Kevin, Michelle, and the Stefanski family all the best in the future."

Atlanta Falcons part ways with head coach and general manager, and name a new CEO

January 4th at 9:02 p.m. EDT

On Sunday night, the Atlanta Falcons announced that they had dismissed head coach Raheem Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot from their respective positions.

"I have great personal affinity for both Raheem and Terry and appreciate their hard work and dedication to the Falcons, but I believe we need new leadership in these roles moving forward," said team owner and chairman Arthur Blank. "The decision to move away from people who represent the organization so well and have a shared commitment to the values that are important to the organization is not an easy one, but the results on the field have not met our expectations or those of our fans and leadership. I wish Raheem and Terry the absolute best in their future pursuits."

The next morning, Blank said that president Greg Beadles was promoted to president and CEO, taking over for Rich McKay. Additionally, former Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is expected to join the team's front office, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Colts retaining head coach Steichen and GM Ballard for next season

January 4th at 6:38 p.m. EDT

Following their loss to the Houston Texans, Colts head coach Shane Steichen and general manager Chris Ballard will both be returning for the 2026-27 season.

"We have been very clear with Chris and Shane that giving them another opportunity means that the sense of urgency for them to deliver and perform has never been higher," said Colts owner and president Irsay-Gordon on Monday. "Chris and Shane are both capable of facing this challenge head-on and finding a way to achieve the results that our fans deserve, which is winning games, getting to the postseason, and ultimately winning championships."
