Manchester Originals vs Oval Invincibles predictions: Oval not so invincible at top of order
- The Originals have lost all four matches
- This clash is a repeat of last year's final, which Invincibles won
- Recommended bet: Originals Highest Opening Partnership
Bottom-of-the-table Manchester Originals and high-flying Oval Invincibles meet at Old Trafford in a repeat of last year's final.
Twelve months ago it was the Invincibles who lifted the trophy after a 14-run victory in the final on their own ground.
That completed a win double over Manchester for the season having earlier crushed Jos Buttler's men by 94 runs in a group game.
Buttler is injured so will be unable to exact revenge on the Oval side but he will be cheering on his team-mates as they try to put their first points on the board.
Team news
The Originals are missing England one-day captain Jos Buttler (calf), which means Phil Salt and Matty Hurst, brought in at the weekend for the first time, will continue to open.
Tom Lammonby was selected for the Invincibles against London Spirit on Sunday with Saqib Mahmood making way, and despite not bowling or batting, should get another chance.
The stats
These franchises have met four times in the previous three Hundreds with three wins for the Invincibles, including in last season's final.
The Surrey club have won three of their first four matches this season, while the Originals are floundering at the foot of the table with four defeats from four.
Invincibles' Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa is the leading wicket-taker in the competition with 10 wickets.
Prediction
Everything points to a routine win for Oval Invincibles at Old Trafford but Manchester are unlikely to go down without a fight.
The Invincibles head north after going top of the men's table on Sunday with a comprehensive 30-run success over their capital rivals London Spirit, with Sam Curran scoring a half-century and taking five wickets, including a hat-trick.
On the same day, the Originals were somehow conspiring to lose a match they had in their hands at Leeds against the Superchargers, scoring 90 for the first wicket in 54 balls in pursuit of 167 and then just another 63 in 46 to lose tamely.
They could not have argued with the start given them by Phil Salt - who had been in poor form - and his new opening partner, Matty Hurst, who top-scored with 78.
And that twosome at the top of the order could become a big ticket item in the absence of Jos Buttler and they are taken at 21/20 to land top opening-partnership honours in this clash.
The Invincibles are clearly the better team, are in better form and have more performing match-winners. However, interestingly, Dawid Malan and Will Jacks at the top of the order have not produced an opening stand of more than 17 in their four games together.
