Haydock is the scene for a strong seven-race card on Thursday
Haydock is the scene for a strong seven-race card on Thursday

The excellent festive racing programme continues on Thursday with a seven-race offering from Haydock amongst the highlights.

They race on Merseyside from 12.30pm until 3.45pm with ground conditions set to be 'heavy'.

And we have picked five horses for you to follow.

1pm - Campbell Novices' Limited Handicap Chase (2m6f)

Dan Skelton's Ashtown Lad is tipped to score on Thursday

Torn And Frayed gave My Drogo a decent enough race at Cheltenham last time and commands plenty of respect for the Twiston-Davies team but they again might be foiled by Dan and Harry Skelton with ASHTOWN LAD

He won a novices' contest at Wetherby over three miles in October and last month's hammering behind the ultra-impressive Ahoy Senor at Newbury is not a stick to be beating him with.

This is a less demanding affair and he could rebound.

LiveScore selection: Ashtown Lad

1.35pm - EBF 'National Hunt' Novices' Hurdle (1m7½f)

Hurdles winners Jungle Jack and Transfer Friendly set the standard but they do have penalties to carry and that will make things tougher.

CAPTAIN BROOMFIELD was third in what looked a decent point-to-point in October and could be one to shine having joined the Emma Lavelle team since.

He is a brother to the smart Captain Guinness and runs in the Paisley Park colours of Andrew Gemmell.

LiveScore selection: Captain Broomfield

2.05pm - Last Fling Handicap Chase (3m4½f)

Tom Symonds has a lively sort in Bobo Mac

Blaklion jumped superbly well when scoring here earlier in the month and will be a major player if turning up in a similar mood now.

This marathon contest should also suit the other veterans Vieux Lion Rouge and Beware The Bear but perhaps BOBO MAC can gain another win.

He was second to easy winner Minella Encore at Ludlow at the start of the month over shorter and his run in the Welsh National back in January assures us he'll stay this trip.

LiveScore selection: Bobo Mac

2.40pm - Windham Handicap Hurdle (2m3f)

HOMME PUBLIC looked a decent prospect when scoring at Market Rasen in February on his second start after joining Oliver Greenall from France.

He was held at the Cheltenham Festival afterwards but ran well here this month on his comeback when third behind Celebre D'allen.

Homme Public got a 6lb pull with that rival now and should be sharper for the run.

LiveScore selection: Homme Public

3.15pm - Codrington Handicap Chase (2m5½f)

Orrisdale could be another star for Jonjo O'Neill
Orrisdale could be another star for Jonjo O'Neill

He looks a typically improving sort for Jonjo O'Neill and ORRISDALE could open his account now.

He came down at the last on his comeback run at Newton Abbot (2m5f, heavy) in October when still contending and then finished second behind The Edgar Wallace at Market Rasen — this time on good ground — last month.

Two of his rivals from that race have since come out and won and this 7YO is unlikely to be waiting very long to get his head in front.

LiveScore selection: Orrisdale
