Mind games

Jurgen Klopp has piled the pressure on Manchester City by claiming he does not expect them to drop points against Aston Villa on Sunday. 

Liverpool head to Southampton tomorrow night knowing a win will move them back to within a point of the Premier League leaders going into the final day of the season. 

And Klopp has turned up the heat on Pep Guardiola's side by suggesting the title is theirs to lose. 

Still basking in the glow of Saturday's FA Cup final success over Chelsea, the Reds boss said: "I don't know the last time City dropped points two games in a row. 

"City are a pretty good football team and I don’t expect them to drop points there. But this has no influence on our game for tomorrow. 

"In an ideal world we go into the last match one point behind."

City battled back from 2-0 down at West Ham yesterday to grab a share of the spoils at the London Stadium. 

And they will host Villa after a full week's rest, whereas Steven Gerrard's side take on Burnley on Thursday. 

Feeling the Blues

Andreas Christensen reportedly declared himself not ready to play on the morning of Chelsea's Wembley woe. 

The Danish centre-back, 26, is out of contract at the end of the season and is widely expected to join LaLiga giants Barcelona. 

It is rumoured he was due to play a prominent part in Thomas Tuchel's FA Cup final line-up but the Blues boss was forced into a rethink.

After 120 minutes of action failed to separate Chelsea and Liverpool at the national stadium, Jurgen Klopp's men emerged victorious on penalties. 

Record crowd for Women's FA Cup final

The Women's FA Cup final between Chelsea and Manchester City drew a record crowd of 49,094 — the highest in the tournament's history. 

Sam Kerr secured a 3-2 victory for the Blues with an extra-time winner having opened the scoring at Wembley in the 33rd minute. 

Her strike was cancelled out by Lauren Hemp before the break but Erin Cuthbert restored Chelsea's lead in the 63rd minute — only for Hayley Raso to pull City level just before full-time. 

Sunday's attendance eclipsed the 45,423 who watched the Blues defeat Arsenal at the national stadium in 2018.

And Emma Hayes believes her side will go down in history after successfully defending the FA Cup just days after winning their third successive Women's Super League title. 

The Chelsea boss said: "I'm just so happy. Those women will go down in history. 

"I will look back in 10 years' time and go 'that group was immense'. They are the best team I have ever coached. 

"We have a group of people who won't be on the losing team. They will find a way."

Yesterday's success was Chelsea's fourth in the competition — all of which have been under the leadership of 45-year-old Hayes. 

VAR at Football League play-off finals

The Football League have confirmed VAR will be used during the Championship, League One and League Two play-off finals. 

With Wembley playing host to all three matches, the League One showdown between Sunderland and Wycombe takes place on Saturday. 

Mansfield and Swindon are currently in the driving seat to contest the League Two final on May 28 after picking up 2-1 wins in the first leg of their semi-finals against Northampton and Port Vale respectively. 

The Championship final will take place a day later on May 29, with Nottingham Forest holding a 2-1 advantage over Sheffield United and Huddersfield and Luton all square after a 1-1 draw.

Nathan Jones' Hatters head to the John Smith's Stadium for the decisive leg tonight, while Forest host the Blades at the City Ground tomorrow. 

And the winners will battle it out at the national stadium for a place in the Premier League. 

Time to move on

Ben Foster has announced he will leave relegated Watford at the end of the season. 

The veteran keeper, 39, said: "The ups, downs, good, bad and ugly... it's all part of the journey. 

"My time at Watford is up but huge thanks for all the support and love I've received from fans, players and staff in the six years with the club. It's been a blast. 

"Looking forward to what next season will bring."

Having enjoyed two season-long loan spells with the Hornets during his Manchester United days, Foster joined them permanently from West Brom in July 2018. 

Nothing to worry about

Mohamed Elneny insists Arsenal's Champions League destiny remains in their hands — and they have no intention of letting a top-four finish slip away. 

The Gunners need to get back to winning ways at Newcastle tonight after a 3-0 hammering by arch-rivals Tottenham last Thursday. 

But while Mikel Arteta's men head into their game in hand having fallen two points behind Spurs, who currently occupy fourth in the Premier League table, Elneny is not worried. 

Speaking exclusively to Sky Sports, the 29-year-old midfielder said: "Of course I'm confident — it's still in our hands. It's not in someone else's control. 

"Everything is down to us and of course we're going to fight for it."
