Moyes: We can go all the way

David Moyes insists West Ham will have no sense of inferiority heading into their first European semi-final in 46 years.

The Hammers continue their incredible Europa League run at the London Stadium this evening when they face Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of their semi-final clash.

It is the next chapter of a remarkable journey for the East London club, who were facing the threat of relegation from the Premier League when the Scot took over in December 2019.

Now just three games away from only their third European title, Moyes thinks his team are more than capable of going the distance.

He said: "We have got a good chance.

"They are a really good side, who have put out a couple of big teams in this competition. But we have as well. I want us to feel positive about it and try and enjoy it as much as we can.

"We have to start getting used to it and thinking this is where we are supposed to be."

Vardy could return

Jamie Vardy could make only his second start of 2022 in the Europa Conference League semi-finals tonight.

The Foxes will face Roma in the home leg of their first-ever European semi-final this evening and could have their talismanic striker available.

The 35-year-old has been largely absent since the turn of the year with a knee injury but returned to the bench against Aston Villa last Saturday.

Confirming team news ahead of tonight’s clash, manager Brendan Rodgers said: "Thankfully the injury list is right down.

"There’s nothing new to add. Boubakary Soumare will come back into the squad. It’s only Wilfred [Ndidi] and Ryan Bertrand that are the two long-term ones. Eldin Jakupovic is out as well, but apart from that, we’ve virtually got everyone ready.

"Vardy will be in the squad. It’s the emotion of everyone. It’s important our pressing and aggression is there from the top of the field. Whoever that is, they will play an important role in that.

"It’s that mix of emotion in the game and the quality too. He’s a top player. He has that street-wise element, that cuteness in the game, and of course his experience. That’s a big plus for us."

United fined after Simone incident

Manchester United have been fined £8,420 after fans threw objects at Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone following their Champions League exit last month.

The Argentine was pelted with missiles as he made his way to the tunnel after the Red Devils’ 1-0 defeat to Atleti at Old Trafford.

Rangers (£38,900) and Liverpool (£8,420) have also been hit with fines by UEFA.

Gers fans lit fireworks during their Europa League loss to Braga on April 7, while the team was deemed responsible for a late kick-off in that game.

Liverpool’s fine has come from a late kick-off in their 3-1 win at Benfica on April 5, with manager Jurgen Klopp given a warning.

Chelsea will still have magic Tuch

Thomas Tuchel insists his Chelsea team will continue to compete with whatever squad they have next season.

Uncertainty continues to surround Stamford Bridge amid the ongoing sale of the club as well as the impending departures of several first-team stars.

Defensive duo Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen are poised to leave this summer, while others could also head for the exit door.

But asked if the FA Cup finalists will still challenge at the top level next term, the German boss replied: "Yes, it's my job — no matter how the situation will be solved and when it will be solved.

"We will dig in and we will try to squeeze out everything of the squad that we have. And hopefully, and I know myself, I will again fall in love with a squad that I have and try to push the squad to the limit."

On outgoing defender Rudiger, he added: "It has been a pleasure every single day with Toni, and I'm a bit concerned that we talk too much in the past about it.

"There are still things to achieve, big things, and he is still a big part of this club and we still demand 100% of him."

Barca set for stadium switch

Barcelona will play their home games during the 2023-24 season away from the Camp Nou with work to regenerate the stadium set to kick off this summer.

The Catalan club will instead play at the Olympic Stadium in the city after a £1.26billion funding package to regenerate their ageing ground was approved in November.

The 99,354 all-seater stadium remains the largest in Europe but has been in need of improvements for several years.

A license has now been granted by the local council for the four-year renovation to begin in June.

Club president Joan Laporta says sporting activity can continue alongside the construction for the time being but they will have to vacate the ground for the 2023-24 campaign.

That season they will instead play at the 60,713-seater Olympic Stadium, which was the centre-piece of the 1992 Games and home ground to rivals Espanyol between 1997 and 2009.

Kylian Mbappe is one of football's biggest stars, but the French forward may also have a promising political career to fall back on when he retires.

The 23-year-old was the surprise recipient of multiple votes during France’s presidential election last week, which saw Emmanuel Macron re-elected with 58.6% of the ballot.

In doing so, Macron became the first French president to be elected for a second term in 20 years after fighting off competition from several candidates, including a certain left-wing opponent.

According to L’Est Republican, Paris Saint-Germain's leading man Mbappe received 10 votes despite not being on the ballot paper.

His success came from residents of Tallenay, a small town in the East of the country with a population of around 425.

Mbappe will hope to finally govern a move to Real Madrid this summer as his contract with the Parisiens enters its final months.
