Starting off strong, racing gets underway at Haydock with the Group 3 Superior Mile Stakes (13:25) and there are several contenders with solid chances amongst the field.
We have a fascinating Listed contest for juveniles in the shape of the Ascendant Stakes (13:55) up next and the £100,000 Handicap (14:30 follows.
The prestigious Old Borough Cup (15:05) is not to be missed and Charlie Appleby’s representative is very interesting, despite making his first start for 320 days.
Our main event is next on the agenda and Almeraq will be looking to bounce back in the Sprint Cup (15:40), whilst Big Mojo won’t give up the crown without a fight.
A couple of fair handicaps follow, with the Be Friendly Handicap (16:20) over 5f and the 7f HKJC World Pool Handicap (16:50). The action comes to a conclusion with the Class 4 Handicap (17:25) over a mile.

Big Mojo to win the Sprint Cup Stakes (15:40) at 17/2
Mick Appleby’s BIG MOJO has some excellent form in the book and his level of ability has been apparent since the beginning of his career, as he got off the mark in the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood on just his second ever start.
The son of Mohaather ran a stormer and was only narrowly denied when second in the July Cup last season and he went on to win this very race two starts later. If producing a similar level of performance now defending his crown, he will not be far away once again.
His season has been a little underwhelming but he got back on track when launching a successful Irish raid at the Curragh in a Group 3 when last seen. Hopefully he is back to his best and with William Buick on board, victory could well be on the cards.

In The Breeze in the Old Borough Cup (15:05) at 20/1
Henrietta Knight is better known for her exploits as a jumps trainer but she has trained plenty of winners on the Flat as well. Two of her four winners in this sphere so far this season have been provided by IN THE BREEZE, so do not be surprised if he adds another to her tally.
The vastly experienced eight-year-old made an excellent start to life at Knight’s yard when landing a Class 3 handicap over 1m4f at Thirsk back in April. He was much too good for his rivals on that occasion and managed to pull more than three-lengths clear of the runner-up.
Impressive over two miles at Goodwood after that, he will appreciate the soft underfoot conditions here and is likely to be in the mix at the business end of the race.

Bet 1: Back Dancing Gemini to win the Superior Mile Stakes (13:25) @ 11/4
Roger Teal’s Dancing Gemini was a very smart performer over a mile last term and there was plenty to like about his three-length fourth in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes this season. This Group 3 contest marks a significant drop in grade and a return to winning ways is therefore anticipated.
Bet 2: Back First Law to win the Ascendant Stakes (13:55) @ 1/1
Charlie Appleby has been firing winners at a rapid rate over the last couple of months and First Law was a narrow winner on debut at Sandown. That would have been a good learning experience and he is entitled to improve significantly this time around.
Bet 3: Back Galilean Quality win the Handicap (14:30) @ 2/1
The versatile Galilean Quality was a winner at Southwell in April and managed to win again over 1m4f at Wolverhampton the following month. A very good second in the Melrose Handicap at York last time out, a similar effort should be enough here, despite a 5lb rise in the weights.
