We’re starting this week’s Saturday racing predictions in the Sodexo Live! Handicap Chase over at Ascot – it’s a 2m1f Handicap with 12 runners currently entered. 

Dan Skelton’s Shakeyatailfeather (9/1), a 7-year-old, is our pick after finishing fifth here last year – a late jumping error may have cost a closer finish. This year, she’s running 8lb lower, carrying just 10st 7lb. 

Ben Pauling’s Vanderpoel (9/2) is the early favourite, but time will tell whether the 11st 11lb weight will be a major disadvantage.

Strong Leader is the favourite and, with just 4 runners entered, our pick to win. He won this race last year, showing he suits the course and distance, beating Take No Chances (11/8) by a neck.

He has established himself as a high-class staying hurdler, with previous victories over three miles. With a Racing Post Rating (RPR) of 164 and an official rating of 153, it’s his race to lose.

Next up, we’re heading back to Ascot for a Class 1 chase Handicap over 3m. 

Tapley (10/1) arrives at the Sodexo Live! Regal Encore Handicap Chase in fantastic form after back-to-back victories at Fontwell and Plumpton, and is our pick to win. His recent performances suggest he is still improving and potentially has more to offer.

The step up to three miles is the main question. His recent wins have come over shorter distances – plus there’s racing royalty to contend with in this one – Nicky Henderson’s Califet En Vol (7/2), piloted by Nico de Boinville, will be another key horse to watch.

14:55 – bet365 Charlie Hall Chase (Wetherby) – Pic d'Orhy

• 3m  – Chase Turf, Grade 2, Class 1, 5yo+

Over to Whetherby once more for the bet365 Charlie Hall Chase – a 3m chase turf packed with quality racehorses. 

The Skelton brothers make an appearance in this one with Pic d'Orhy (11/8) acting as both the early favourite and our pick for the race. An official rating of 162 clears the nearest competition, Handstands (7/2) and The Real Whacker (9/2) by 9 points. 

He finished second back in the Charlie Hall Chase in 2025, beaten just a length by Djelo and will be hoping for redemption this time out. At 11 years old, he’s no spring chicken, but it’s clear there’s still life in the old dog yet.

15:15 – BetVictor, Remembering Envoi Allen Champion Chase (Down Royal) – Heart Wood

Finally, we’re heading to Ireland for the BetVictor Remembering Envoi Allen Champion Chase at Down Royal. 

There are just 7 runners in this one, and our pick is the early favourite, Henry De Bromhead’s Heart Wood (3/1). He won the Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival last season, showing he can compete at the highest level.

But this race won’t be a trot in the park – he’ll be up against Gordon Elliott’s Romeo Coolio (4/1), fresh off four wins in his last five races. The three-mile distance is a genuine question mark with Heart Wood’s recent victories coming over shorter trips.
