13:30 – Sky Bet "Jump Jockeys' Nunthorpe" Handicap (York) – Emerald Harmony

  • 4f 219y Handicap Flat, 17 runners

  • Good to firm-good in places

Saturday’s racing gets underway, for us, at 13:30 with the Sky Bet "Jump Jockeys' Nunthorpe" Handicap at York.

There’s a mixed bag of entries in the opener, but our top pick, and the early favourite, is Emerald Harmony – but at 4/1, it’s far from a sure thing. It’s well worth an each-way bet to open the day.

The 5-year-old has only won once in the last five races – not an overly convincing record, but the best compared to the competition. His recent results can be viewed in the table below:

14:00 – Sky Bet Dash (York) – Addison Grey

  • 5f 219y Handicap Flat, 22 runners

  • Good to firm-good in places

Next up, we’re staying at York for the second race of the afternoon – the Sky Bet Dash.

Again, there’s no clear favourite in this one – the shortest odds are 5/1 with Red Spells Danger, but there’s plenty of other runners in with a realistic shot at this one. We like the look of Clive Cox’s Addison Grey (7/1), a 4-year-old grey mare looking good with recent runs over 6f.

She may not have won in the last few races, but there have been some convincing performances with a handful of second and third-place finishes in the mix. Her last five race results can be viewed in the table below:

14:20 – Longines Valiant Stakes (Ascot) – Kon Tiki

  • 7f 211y Group 3 Flat, 8 runners

  • Good to firm

Our first Ascot prediction of the weekend next, and it’s in the Longines Valiant Stakes, a Group 3 flat race open to Fillies & Mares.

Owen Burrows has the favourite in this one with Touleen (8/11), but it’s the second-place entry Kon Tiki (7/2) that we’re liking the look of.

She’s not managed a win since May of last year, when she stormed home, beating Bermuda Longtail. We think trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam is due another first place with Kon Tiki; it’s well worth an each-way bet. Her last five race results can be viewed in the table below:

14:55 – Moët & Chandon International Handicap (Ascot) – Amazing Journey

  • 6f 219y Handicap Flat, 17 runners

  • Good to firm

Next up, we’ve got the Moët & Chandon International Handicap at Ascot – a 6f 219y Handicap Flat race with 17 runners entered

William Haggas has the early favourite with Extremely Zain (13/8), but there’s a handful of fantastic, underpriced runners in this one. Jamie Osborne’s Amazing Journey (13/2) is one such runner, a 3-year-old Bay Gelding with impressive recent form.

He’s got a good history at Ascot, winning last time out in the Savills Handicap, priced at 5/1. His recent form over the last 5 races is shown in the table below:

15:35 – King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Ascot) – Benvenuto Cellini

  • 1m 3f 210y Group 1 Flat, 9 runners

  • Good to firm

Finally, it’s time for the big one – the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes. There’s an enormous £2,000,000 guaranteed, with £1,134,200 going to first place.

The favourite to take home the grand prize is Calandagan (6/4), a 5-year-old with an incredible record, winning four of the last five races. However, Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien – one of our favourites – has two entries in this; of those, I think Benvenuto Cellini (9/2) has the best chance.

He may not have as clean a record as Calandagan, but O’Brien is doing some of his best work here. His recent runnings can be seen below, including that infamous VOID result from the leg caught in the stall at Epsom this year:
