13:02 – Dubai International Airport World Trophy Stakes (Newbury) – First Instinct

  • 5f – Flat Turf, Group 3, Class 1

  • Runners: 11 (MAX 20)

  • Good

The Dubai International Airport World Trophy Stakes kicks off ITV3 coverage – a Group 3 event over 5f with 11 runners and a £100,000 guarantee.

The field features a range of quality picks, including Starlust (3/1), Redorange (5/1) and the seasoned Diligent Harry (15/2). But it’s William Haggas’ First Instinct (7/1) that I’ve taken a liking to.

She comes into this race with a mixed recent profile, but her form is enough to make her interesting at an each-way price. A very encouraging 2nd of 13 over 6f at York in July is her best result in her last five races, but she has history at Newbury: she won the World Trophy in September 2025, beating Shagraan over 5f on good to soft ground.

She’s well worth an EW bet and underpriced compared to the front runners.

14:12 – Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes (Newbury) – Arapaho Gold

  • 6f – Flat Turf, Group 2, Class 1

  • Runners: 8 (MAX 20)

  • Good

The best Group race on the Newbury card – it’s the Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes – a Group 2 for two-year-olds, worth £175,000

Arapaho Gold (6/5) is in my pick in this one – arriving at the course unbeaten in four starts, including the Group 2 Gimcrack at York. Jolivette (2/1) brings high-level form of her own, but Arapaho Gold is going to take some beating here – he’s progressed through the grades without being beaten and has already proved himself over this distance.

He’s also recently won at Newbury, beating Nabati by a neck over 6f in July, before improving at York, beating Final Objective by three-quarters of a length in the Group 2 Gimcrack. He might not offer phenomenal value, but you wouldn’t want to bet against him.

14:30 – Ladbrokes Ayr Silver Cup Handicap (Ayr) – Desert Falcon

  • 6f – Flat Turf, Handicap, Class 2

  • Runners: 25 (MAX 25)

  • Soft

The one to watch for pure handicap competitiveness, the Class 2 Ladbrokes Ayr Silver Cup Handicap is specifically for horses eliminated from the Gold Cup at the 48-hour declaration stage.

Desert Falcon (9/1) is my pick in this one, and although his 2026 results are not particularly attractive on paper, it’s worth noting he finished 2nd of 25 in the Ayr Gold Cup last year. His only other run at Ayr scored him a first-place finish – he’s well worth an EW bet, if you fancy him.

  • 6f – Flat Turf, Group 3, Class 1

  • Runners: 9 (MAX 25)

  • Soft

The key supporting race at Ayr – the Ladbrokes "New Customers Get 50/1 Old Firm Offer" Firth Of Clyde – a Group 3 for two-year-old fillies over 6f.

We’re sticking with the early favourite in this one, Kevin Philippart De Foy’s Silent Beauty (7/4). She’s only had three completed career starts, winning both her debut over 6f at Yarmouth in May and her last run out at Ripon in August.

Silent Beauty’s performance at Ripon was decisive, and she won on good-to-soft ground, again over 6f. Daniel Tudhope’s Rogue Jewel (9/4) should be solid competition, but it’s Silent Beauty’s race to lose.

15:40 – Ladbrokes Ayr Gold Cup (Ayr) – Far Above Dream

  • 6f – Flat Turf, Handicap, Class 2

  • Runners: 25 (MAX 25)

  • Soft

The obvious headline race and the day's major handicap is the Ladbrokes Ayr Gold Cup. There are 25 runners over 6f, with £180,000 guaranteed, and it should have plenty of pace, traffic and tactical intrigue simply because of the maximum-sized field.

For me, James Owen’s Far Above Dream (17/2) arguably has the strongest recent form profile of the selections, mainly because of his consistency.

Recent runs include two first-place finishes alongside a second, fourth and sixth. He repeatedly gets competitive even in difficult circumstances. He’s an excellent pick in this 25-strong race – especially with an EW option.
