13:55 – BetVictor Steventon Stakes (Newbury) – Arabian Light
1m 1f 219y Listed Flat – 6 Runners
Good to firm – good in places
The televised racing gets underway on ITV4 today at Newbury with the BetVictor Steventon Stakes – a flat 1m 2f contest with just 6 runners to choose from.
I’ve started my predictions with a bit of a wildcard – Arabian Light (5/1). Charlie Appleby’s runner is in the bottom two runners, only ahead of Midak (14/1) in the early markets. The recent form of Arabian Light is shown in the table below:
Date | Distance | Venue | Position |
|---|---|---|---|
16 June 2026 | 1m2f | Ascot | 10/16 |
28 May 2026 | 1m2f | Sandown | 4/6 |
30 Jan 2026 | 1m2f | Meydan | 2/7 |
2 Jan 2026 | 1m2f | Meydan | 1/14 |
5 July 2025 | 1m2f | Sandown | 5/8 |
Table: Recent Form of Arabian Light
Appleby has a knack for these kinds of races, and both he and Al Zanati, Appleby’s second entry in the race, look like good picks to open the day.
14:45 – Betway Summer Plate Handicap Chase (Market Rasen) – Kingston Narcissus
2m 5f 88y Grade 3, Handicap Chase – 13 Runners
Good
Betting against the Skelton brothers, especially when they’re running the favourite, is rarely a smart play – that’s one of many reasons that Kingston Narcissus (11/4) is our pick for the Betway Summer Plate Handicap Chase.
His last three races over 2m – 2m4f have proved the horse a strong runner, and the pair will be looking to capitalise on his recent performance come Saturday. The recent form of Kingston Narcissus is shown in the table below:
Date | Distance | Venue | Position |
|---|---|---|---|
28 June 2026 | 2m | Uttoxeter | 2/6 |
17 June 2026 | 2m4f | Worcester | 2/3 |
2 May 2026 | 2m4f | Hexham | 1/5 |
21 Mar 2026 | 2m5f | Kelso | 11/14 |
9 Feb 2026 | 2m3½f | Catterick | 7/8 |
Table: Recent Form of Kingston Narcissus
Keiran Burke’s Soul Icon (11/2) and Mickey Bowen’s Queensbury Boy (6/1) will prove to be fierce competition as just 14 hurdles separate them from the £42,713 first-place prize.
15:15 – Ripon Bell-Ringer Handicap (Ripon) – Elsass
1m 4f 9y Handicap Flat – 8 runners
Good – Good to firm in places
Winning at both Hamilton and Southwell (AW) in May and April this year, Charlie Johnston’s Elsass is the early favourite for the Ripon Bell-Ringer Handicap.
He’ll have David O'Meara’s Prince Of The Seas and Richard & Peter Fahey’s Yafreh for company over the 1m4f race for a first-place prize of £25,770. The recent form of Elsass Earhart is shown in the table below:
Date | Distance | Venue | Position |
|---|---|---|---|
4 July 2026 | 1m4f | Newmarket | 10/12 |
15 May 2026 | 1m3f | Hamilton | 1/7 |
23 Apr 2026 | 1m3f | Southwell (AW) | 1/6 |
10 Oct 2026 | 1m4f | Newmarket | 10/12 |
1 Oct 2025 | 1m3f | Kempton | 2/9 |
Table: Recent Form of Elsass
His last outing at Newmarket was admittedly poor; he raced wide and prominent after 4f before weakening over the final furlong. We’ll be keen to see him make amends with a return to form at Ripon.
15:37 – Weatherbys Super Sprint Stakes (Newbury) – Vollering
5f 32y Flat – 26 Runners
Good to firm – good in places
The Weatherbys Super Sprint Stakes is the feature race of the day at Newbury, with runners competing for a top prize of £135,218.
Early favourites include Bint Archange (10/3) and Etienne (11/2), but it’s Archie Watson’s Vollering (15/2) that has caught our eye.
The 2-year-old owned by Jinky Farms and Partner has slightly more experience than most other runners in the field. Despite having only one career win, it’s increasingly clear that he’s settling into competitive racing, and the race results show it. The recent form of Vollering is shown in the table below:
Date | Distance | Venue | Position |
|---|---|---|---|
4 July 2026 | 5f | Deauville | 3/9 |
31 May 2026 | 5f | Chantilly | 4/9 |
17 May 2025 | 6f | Naas | 5/6 |
20 Apr 2026 | 5f | Redcar | 1/9 |
Table: Recent Form of Vollering
The 5f distance will be no problem for him, and with jockey Tom Marquand piloting, he looks underpriced in the current market.
16:35 – Juddmonte Irish Oaks (Curragh) – Amelia Earhart (11/2)
1m 3f 219y Group 1 Flat – 11 Runners
Good to firm
The early third-place favourite in the Juddmonte Irish Oaks, behind Thundering On (2/1) and Earth Shot (7/2), Amelia Earhart (11/2) still offers tremendous value, especially with an EW bet.
Trained by Aiden O’brien, she’s well-suited to the distance, winning at both Chester and Leopardstown over similar ground in May and October. The recent form of Amelia Earhart is shown in the table below:
Date | Distance | Venue | Position |
|---|---|---|---|
5 June 2026 | 1m4f | Epsom | 6/9 |
6 May 2026 | 1m3½f | Chester | 1/5 |
18 Oct 2025 | 1m | Leopardstown | 1/10 |
28 Sep 2025 | 7f | Curragh | 4/9 |
12 Sept 2025 | 7f | Doncaster | 2/10 |
Table: Recent Form of Amelia Earhart
She had a disappointing run at Epsom, weakening over 1f out and ultimately being beaten by the race winner, Thundering On. The team will be looking to rectify their last run-out, and she’s my pick to take home the €285,000 first-place prize in the Juddmonte Irish Oaks.
