Glorious Goodwood is one of Britain's most treasured summer festivals on the Flat and the action on the famous Sussex Downs is set to burst to life on Tuesday afternoon.
Here is everything you need to know for day one, including the day's best bets.
Day 1 – Key info
First race: 13:20 Chesterfield Cup Handicap
Feature race: 15:05 Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup Stakes (Group 1
Glorious Goodwood starts on Tuesday afternoon with the first of five days of top class racing from the Sussex Downs, as the Goodwood Cup headlines.
Best bet of the day
Back Illinois to win the Goodwood Cup (15:05) at 6/4 with LiveScore Bet.
Aidan O'Brien may have retired two-time winner Kyprios but he still boasts strong claims in the Goodwood Cup with Illinois and Scandinavia. The latter looked good at Newmarket last time and gets a chunk of weight but only one horse — four-time winner Stradivarius — has won this race aged three since 1990.
Illinois was second in the Ascot Gold Cup last time and is a hugely consistent performer in his 11-race career so far.
He's tough in his attitude and two-miles around here looks optimal. Ryan Moore prefers him to Scandinavia and that is a strong vote of confidence.
Best each-way bet of the day
Back English Oak each-way in the Chesterfield Cup Handicap (13:20) at 18/1
A Royal Ascot winner last summer via the Buckingham Palace Stakes, there is a chance Ed Walker's English Oak has been cut some slack by the handicapper now.
He was kept to Pattern races last season after his Ascot win and contested the Lennox here. He started this term rated 108 and had a few below par efforts, but he dropped 11lb in the ratings and ran a much more encouraging race when second at Hamilton last time.
His stamina will be tested now but he might be overpriced.
Day 1 acca
We're providing an accumulator suggestion for each day at Glorious Goodwood and our day one treble pays 18/1 with LiveScore Bet.
Bet 1: Jonquil to win the Lennox Stakes (14:30) at 9/4
Andrew Balding was the last trainer to saddle a 3YO winner of the Lennox Stakes and he has got fine claims again now with Jonquil. He won the Greenham at Newbury over this trip in the spring, was inched out the French 2000 Guineas at a mile and probably found the 6f Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot too sharp.
Bet 2: Illinois to win the Goodwood Cup (15:05) at 6/4
Illinois has not finished out of the first three in 11 career starts and was seven-lengths clear of the next best when chasing home Trawlerman in the Ascot Gold Cup last time. The two-mile trip at Goodwood could be optimal for him.
Bet 3: Naval Light to win the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes (16:20) at 6/4
A traditionally strong maiden in which Naval Light looks ready to shine bright for Karl Burke and the Wathnan Racing team. The Havana Grey colt was second in Beverley's Two Year Old Trophy on debut in May and ran on really pleasingly to be fifth from the rear in the Norfolk Stakes since at Royal Ascot. This is a big chance for him.
