Glorious Goodwood Day Four: Best bet, each-way selection and treble
Recommended bets include:
Arisaig each-way in the Golden Mile
We have passed the halfway point of Glorious Goodwood and the show goes on with another brilliant card on Friday.
Here is everything you need to know for day four at Glorious Goodwood, including the best bets.
Day 4 – Key info
First race: 1.20pm Goodwood Handicap
Feature race: 3.05pm King George Qatar Stakes (Group 2)
Topping the bill on day four is the King George Qatar Stakes, a culmination of some of the fastest sprinters in the world, who are set to line up at 3.05pm.
We kick off with a staying race over 2m4½f (1.20pm) before attention turns to the Thoroughbred Stakes at 1.55pm in a fascinating clash between exciting three-year-old milers Cosmic Year and Opera Ballo.
After that, punters must solve the Golden Mile (2.30pm) and the feature King George Qatar Stakes which is due off at 3.05pm, when a cool £180,000 is up for grabs for the winning owner.
The ITV action draws to a close with a 1m1f conditions contest at 3.45pm — a race in which classy course winner Liberty Lane tops the market.
Best bet of the day
Back Align The Stars to win the Goodwood Handicap (1:20pm) at 6/1
Christophe Soumillion is an eyecatching booking aboard Align The Stars in the Goodwood Handicap and the four-year-old is taken to do the business for trainer Charlie Johnston.
Align The Stars was seriously progressive last campaign and ended up running against classy, established stayers in the Lonsdale Cup and Prix Royal-Oak. He was outclassed in those races and this is more his level.
The son of Sea The Stars has caught the eye on his past two starts. He bounced back to form with a decent showing in the Ascot Stakes before faring best of those who forced the pace in a strongly run 1m6f handicap at Newmarket’s July meeting.
We know Align The Stars acts on the course as he won at the meeting in 2024 off 1lb higher, so this looks a cracking piece of placing.
Best each-way bet of the day
Back Arisaig each-way in the Golden Mile (2.30pm) at 15/2
Johnston also appears to have an outstanding chance in the Golden Mile with Arisaig, who should be backed each-way.
Arisaig has run a few cracking races in defeat this term, including at this track in the Conqueror Fillies’ Stakes a few starts back behind subsequent Group 2 winner Crimson Advocate. She didn’t get a clean run through that day and wasn’t beaten far.
The daughter of Harry Angel also shaped really well in a good mile handicap at Sandown last time, only giving best to thriving course specialist Classic. She was comfortably the best of the held-up runners that day and won over this course and distance at the 2024 festival.
This race should be run at a good clip and Arisaig won’t be far away granted that set-up under Jamie Spencer.
Day 5 acca
Everybody loves a Glorious Goodwood accumulator and we will be pointing towards one on each of the five days this week. Here is our treble for day four:
Bet 1: Align The Stars to win the Goodwood Handicap at 13/2 with LiveScore Bet.
Campaigned as a high-class stayer last season. Took a while to hit full stride this term, but past two efforts have been encouraging and brings good course form to the table.
Bet 2: Arisaig each-way in the Golden Mile at 15/2 with LiveScore Bet.
Goes well at the track and already on the cusp of Listed class on the pick of her form. Recent Sandown second deserves upgrading and capable of having a big say.
Bet 3: She’s Quality to win the King George Qatar Stakes at 13/2 with LiveScore Bet.
Absolute speedball whose formlines this season are working out strongly. Type to be suited by blasting out on this sharp track and could take some reeling in for trainer Jack Davison.
