Glorious Goodwood Day 5: Best bet, each-way selection and treble
Recommended bets include:
Isaac Newton to win the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes
Glorious Goodwood closes out with a bang and, although there are no Group 1 offerings to look forward to, we do have the fast and furious Stewards' Cup.
A maximum field of 28 has been declared for the £250,000 main event and there are a multitude of angles for us to consider.
Here is everything you need to know for day five, including the day's best bets.
Day 5 – Key info
First race: 13:20 Glorious Stakes
Feature race: 15:05 Stewards' Cup
Saturday's Goodwood action begins with the Group 3 Glorious Stakes and the popular eight-year-old Al Aasy will be fancied to earn a second win in the race, after claiming victory in last year's renewal.
A valuable 1m6f handicap is next on the schedule and the Group 2 Lillie Langtry Stakes (14:30) follows that. Run over the same trip as the previous race, Joseph O'Brien's Goodie Two Shoes looks like the one to watch based on recent form.
The Stewards' Cup (15:05) has to be one of the fastest 6f races in Britain, as Goodwood’s downhill sprint course is one of the easiest around.
Last year's winner Get It will be bidding to go in again, but is now rated 6lb higher, courtesy of his Ascot success.
Best bet of the day
Aidan O'Brien has an excellent crop of juveniles this season, highlighted by the many successes of Coolmore stallion Wootton Bassett.
The master trainer won all three Group 2 races at Royal Ascot last month and this time he sends over Isaac Newton for this maiden.
This son of Camelot ran an absolute cracker to finish second on debut over this trip at the Curragh. Only stablemate New Zealand got the better of him and it was by the narrowest of margins.
You would imagine he is a future middle-distance type, but this trip is fine for now.
Most of the yard’s two-year-olds take a significant step forward from their debuts and, if Isaac Newton does so, it is hard to see him getting beaten here.
Best each-way bet of the day
Back Circe in the Stewards’ Cup (15:05) at 9/1 with LiveScore Bet
Richard Hannon's decision to drop this filly back to 6f has truly been an inspired one and she has been in excellent form this season. Winning three of her last four starts, she was particularly impressive at Newmarket last month.
Hannon's filly was always in touch with the leaders and ran on well after being switched. She pulled two lengths clear of her nearest rival that day and clearly had plenty in hand.
The handicapper has responded with a 6lb rise, which is pretty hard to argue with.
More may well be needed here and it will surely not be too long before the handicapper has her in their grasp, but she could be worth keeping on side for the time being.
Day 5 acca
Accumulators are always good fun, so we have put together a treble consisting of three strong fancies who are all expected to do the business.
Bet 1: Back Al Aasy to win the Glorious Stakes (13:20) @ 6/4
Al Aasy is a pretty consistent performer in this sort of grade and showed a good attitude to win the Gordon Richards Stakes at Sandown on seasonal debut. Probably a little disappointing since, previous course and distance form is a big plus and this race looks very winnable.
Bet 2: Back Goodie Two Shoes to win the Lillie Langtry Stakes (14:30) @ 11/4
Goodie Tow Shoes has been in the form of her life this season, completing a hat-trick of successes in a Group 3 over this trip at Fairyhouse last time. That form makes her the one to beat and she will not be too inconvenienced if the ground goes soft.
Bet 3: Isaac Newton to win the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes (16:20) @ 10/11
If Aidan O'Brien sends over a two-year-old to run in a maiden, it is usually a good idea to take note. Isaac Newton's excellent performance on debut at the Curragh looks like solid form and he is entitled to improve for the experience.
