Ebor Festival Day 3: Best bet, each-way selection and treble
Recommended bets include:
Truth Be Told each-way in the Assured Data Protection Handicap
York’s Ebor Festival continues on Friday and Day 3’s card provides another seven races for us to look forward to, with the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes being the race of the day.
A fascinating US raider looks like the one to beat there but we have also got a couple of Group 2s on the agenda, as well as some thoroughly competitive handicap action.
Day 3 - Key info
First race: 13:50 Sky Bet Mile
Feature race: 15:35 Nunthorpe Stakes
The card starts with the intriguing Sky Bet Mile Handicap (13:50), which has attracted a maximum field of 20 runners, including an Irish raider from the Ger Lyons yard.
One for the stayers, the Group 2 Lonsdale Cup (14:25) is next on the agenda and Prix Vicomtesse Vigier winner Caballo De Mar heads the field.
The two-year-old colts get their chance to shine in the Gimcrack Stakes (15:00) before the main event, the Nunthorpe Stakes (15:35), tales centre stage.
We also have the £120,000 Assured Data Protection Handicap (16:10), the very valuable Convivial Maiden Stakes (16:45) and the EBF Fillies' Handicap (17:20).
Best bet of the day
Bacio to win the Nunthorpe Stakes (15:35) @ 7/2
It was interesting that Royal Ascot regular Wesley Ward took aim at a handicap with BACIO at the royal meeting last time out and he was obviously confident that he had plenty in hand. That proved to be the case as the three-year-old made a mockery of his handicap mark.
He lined up in the Palace of Holyroodhouse and took advantage of a fast start to successfully make all the running and embarrass a competitive field in the process. A mark of 100 proved to be far too low and he is ready for the step up in class on that evidence.
Clearly he would not have looked out of place in the Group 1 Charles III Stakes and that is why he is fancied to get the better of the winner of that race, Mission Central, now. He is lightly raced and there could be even more to come, which is a scary thought for his rivals.
Best each-way bet of the day
Truth Be Told in the Assured Data Protection Handicap (16:10) @ 12/1
Irish trainer Michael Grassick sends the potentially progressive TRUTH BE TOLD over for this race and the four-year-old has been in decent form so far this season.
The son of Too Darn Hot made his first start of the campaign in a competitive race at Leopardstown in May and ran on well to score by just shy of a length, after being held up in the early stages. He had more in hand than the official margin suggested.
Also victorious over an extended 1m4f on his final start for previous trainer Dermot Weld, he only just failed to catch the winner at Ballinrobe last time and could go one better.
Day 3 acca
We have three selections from across Friday’s card at York and they combine to form a whopping 64/1 treble with LiveScore Bet, for those who fancy getting involved.
Bet 1: Back Caballo De Mar to win the Lonsdale Cup (14:25) @ 9/4
George Scott’s staying star CABALLO DE MAR landed a Group 1 over just shy of two miles in France on his penultimate start and while things did not quite go to plan in the Gold Cup, this trip should be more to his liking. A return to winning ways could be on the cards.
Bet 2: Back Adaay Of Scarlett to win the Gimcrack Stakes (15:00) @ 7/2
The tough and consistent ADAAY OF SCARLETT deserves his day in the sun at this level and he is probably the one to beat on form. Having finished second in the Coventry Stakes, July Stakes and the Richmond Stakes, he should be up to winning this time around.
Bet 3: Back Bacio to win the Nunthorpe Stakes (15:35) @ 7/2
It is very difficult to fancy any other runner that BACIO after the US raider’s excellent performance at Royal Ascot. This son of Maclean’s Music is rapid and is well set to land the spoils.
