Ayr Gold Cup Day: Best bet, each-way selection and double
Recommended bets include:
Ayr’s big race day of the year on the Flat is back this Saturday afternoon with a superb eight-race card packed with competitive handicaps.
The Ayr Gold Cup is the feature race of the day with 25 runners and the consolation race, the Ayr Silver Cup is another 25-runner field to get stuck into.
Here is everything you need to know for Saturday’s action north of the border, including the day's best bets.
Key Info
First race: 1.15pm 1m Handicap
Feature race: 3.35pm Ayr Gold Cup
It is the third and final day of Ayr’s biggest meeting on the level coming up and the likes of Jim Goldie and Adrian Keatley have already enjoyed a cracking first two days.
They both have some interesting runners on Saturday and other trainers that do well at this meeting, and in particular the Ayr Gold Cup, are Karl Burke and Kevin Ryan.
The former trained the first three home last season and the latter has a fantastic historical record in the race.
Best bet of the day
Hammer The Hammer to win the Ayr Gold Cup (3.35pm) @ 11/1
The Ayr Gold Cup can work as a stepping stone to bigger things for those that win near the top of the handicap and one that will probably be destined for Group races is Hammer The Hammer.
He was very impressive at Chester earlier in the season before chasing home a very well treated rival at Royal Ascot, while his run last time out was too bad to be true.
Expect him to bounce back and he could be hard to catch with an uncontested lead possible.
Best each-way bet of the day
Silky Wilkie each-way in the Ayr Silver Cup (2.25pm) @ 10/1
Silky Wilkie only found stablemate Lethal Levi too good in last year’s renewal of the Ayr Gold Cup and he’s dropped a stone in the weights after a poor beginning to the season.
However, his recent return at York could not have been more eye-catching and this very well treated sort has stall one to work with, which could be a big advantage given that the low drawn horses came out best in the Ayr Bronze Cup on Friday.
Ayr Acca
Everybody loves a Saturday acca and we have put together an each-way double in some of the less competitive races.
Bet 1: Mr King to win the 1.15pm @ 15/2
Mr King could not have been any more eye-catching when failing to get a run last time out after being hampered severely at Haydock, and he can gain compensation on Saturday.
Bet 2: Silent Move to win the 5.15pm @ 9/2
Another eyecatcher last time out was Silent Move who was trapped on the rail at Thirsk at a crucial stage and has become well treated on old form.
