Day 3 kicks off with the first of three Grade 1s, the Maghull Novices’ Chase, in which Willie Mullins trains the favourite, and is swiftly followed by a valuable handicap hurdle.
Another Grade 1 novice event takes place next and the Dan Skelton-trained Bossman Jack is expected to go close there, according to the market.
The Freebooter Handicap Chase is going to be a very interesting betting race and the Grade 1 Liverpool Hurdle looks there for the taking in a wide open renewal.
Everyone will be glued to their screens for the Grand National, which takes place at 16:00, and the meeting concludes with a Grade 2 bumper at 17:00.
Best bet of the day
Salvator Mundi in the Maghull Novices' Chase (12:45) @ 11/10
Willie Mullins hasn’t assembled a full army to send over to Aintree, as he has done in previous years, but the runners he is sending over need to be considered.
Connections of SALVATOR MUNDI decided to swerve Cheltenham in order to come here instead and that could prove to be a good move off the back of his impressive success at Thurles last time out. He bolted up by a wide margin that day and looked special.
Winning at this very meeting last year, he took the Top Novices’ Hurdle in good style, and a reproduction of that sort of form will make him very hard to beat.
Best each-way bet of the day
Quai De Bourbon in the Grand National (16:00) @ 25/1
Mullins has won this race in each of the last two years and QUAI DE BOURBON could follow in the footsteps of I Am Maximus and Nick Rockett for the Irishman.
He remains lightly raced over fences and it remains to be seen if that is a positive or a negative but he was a good third at the Cheltenham Festival in his hurdling days.
Brought down in a Grade 1 novice chase here last season, he went on to run a cracker in the Irish National after that, eventually keeping on for third.
Mullins’ seven-year-old returned to form with a solid third in a competitive race at Leopardstown last month and that should put him spot on here.
Day 3 acca
Accumulators are often popular, especially at the big spring festival, so we’ve got you covered. Here is an Aintree Day 3 treble which pays 43/1 with LiveScore Bet.
Bet 1: Back Salvator Mundi to win the Maghull Novices’ Chase (12:45) @ 11/10
This probably isn’t the strongest renewal of the race but Salvator Mundi looks like the best of few bonafide Grade 1 performers. He’s got plenty of pace and victory is anticipated.
Bet 2: Back Jingko Blue to win the Liverpool Hurdle (15:05) @ 6/1
Nicky Henderson landed the Bowl on Day 1 with Jango Baie and the same owner/trainer combination could strike with Jingko Blue. This horse won BetMGM Cup at the Cheltenham Festival in the style of a graded horse and he won’t get a better opportunity.
Bet 3: Back Bass Hunter to win the Weatherbys National Hunt Flat Race (17:00) @ 2/1
Chris Gordon is having an excellent season and a winner at Aintree would be the icing on the cake. He runs the very talented Bass Hunter here. He was a very good third in the Champion Bumper last time out and a similar effort should be enough here.
