Manchester City manager Gareth Taylor hailed one of his side’s "best performances" after Everton were beaten 4-1 in the Women’s Super League.

Bunny Shaw’s hat-trick helped City on their way to a fourth consecutive WSL victory and level on points with Arsenal at the top end of the table going into the winter break.

He told the club website: "I’m really pleased for the girls. We knew how important it was to finish off strong, we saw the results today.

"I think it was a good opportunity for us to make ground and we did that. I thought we started well, controlled large parts, made changes and it had little impact in disrupting our flow.

"There were some strong performances today and I liked how we showed our personality.

"With and without the ball, I thought that was probably one of the best performances we’ve had."

Laura Coombs brought up her 100th appearance for City during Sunday’s game and had a great strike whistle past the post just before half-time.

Victory sees City sit three points behind league leaders Chelsea and Coombs believes Sunday’s result puts the club in good stead going into next year.

She told the club website: "It’s really good. I didn’t know it was coming up to be honest [100 appearances], but super-happy to make it. It’s been a great four-and-a-half seasons and I’m glad to have made the milestone.

"The team feels really young, energetic and with a great future ahead of us. I think it feels really fresh at the minute and everyone is competing for spaces.

"We just wanted to go out and end the year on a high, get a lot of goals.

"We were a little disappointed we conceded but it’s still a good result for us and puts us in a good spot for starting the next year."
