Denmark have featured at each of the last four major tournaments and their quest to reach the 2026 World Cup continues with a contest against North Macedonia at the Parken Stadium.

Brian Riemer's side were seemingly in control of qualifying Group D until the wheels fell off in their final two fixtures.

The Danes started their November schedule with a shock 2-2 draw at home to Belarus and were knocked off top spot three days later by a 4-2 defeat away to Scotland.

However, they are warm favourites to overcome North Macedonia and seal a place in next Tuesday's Path D final away to either the Czech Republic or Ireland.

The route to the World Cup is trickier for North Macedonia, who would need to register back-to-back away wins.

Nonetheless the Balkan nation will look to take inspiration from the 2022 World Cup qualifying play-offs when they reached the final with a shock 1-0 victory away to Italy.

Team news

Joachim Anderson serves a one-match suspension and Kasper Schmeichel, Filip Jorgensen, Jannik Vestergaard, Andreas Christensen, Rasmus Kristensen, and Patrick Dorgu are absent due to injuries.

Mikkel Damsgaard (knock) is a doubt after being left out of the Brentford squad for Saturday's 0-0 draw at Leeds.

Ezgjan Alioski is a major injury doubt after not featuring for his club, Lugano, for over three weeks.

However, there should be plenty of experience in the starting eleven, including RB Leipzig attacker Eljif Elmas (currently on loan with Napoli) and captain Enis Bardhi.

Prediction

Denmark have had over four months to stew over their dramatic loss to Scotland but they can get their World Cup qualification push back on track by defeating North Macedonia.

The play-off draw looks a tough one for North Macedonia, who are striving to reach the World Cup for the first time in their history.

They picked up 13 points in qualifying Group J, including home and away draws (1-1 and 0-0) against sectional winners Belgium, but finished with a 7-1 loss away to Wales, which prompted a change of direction with Goce Sedloski replacing Blagoja Milevski as the head coach.

Sedloski has a largely healthy squad to select from and will be encouraged by the number of injuries afflicting Danish preparations.

However, there is plenty of depth to the Denmark squad and that may come to the fore, allowing the hosts to register a high-scoring success.
