League Two was arguably the most competitive division from England’s top four tiers last season, with only 12 points separating first and ninth in the final positional shakeup.
That means that outright predictions for the 2026/27 League Two campaign will be tough to make, though we have picked out some predictions and contenders from the ante-post markets that could be worth your time.
Bromley won the title last term with 87 points, which is a tally that at least a dozen teams will believe they can aim for between now and May next year.
Margins are likely to be tight in the top half of the table again, which in turn, opens up opportunities to find real value in the betting.

The favourites: 4/1 Salford aiming to rebound from playoff heartache
Salford City missed out on automatic promotion by a single point last season and then went on to lose the Playoff Final against Notts County (0-3) in a second, fatal blow that kept them in the fourth tier for another year, and resulted in the sacking of manager Karl Robinson.
Rebranded in their traditional orange colours for the new campagin, the Ammies have been gearing up well over the summer for another promotion push.
The signing of Macaulay Langstaff could be a real coup. The 29-year-old striker never really got going during his two-year stay at Millwall, though he was prolific before that in League Two with Notts County. If he captures that kind of form, Salford will reap major benefits.
Wide attacker Luke Molyneux, who was excellent for Doncaster in League One last term, also drops down a division to join Salford for a bigger pay cheque, adding more class to an already strong Salford squad.
The biggest question marks however, are around new boss Peter Cklamovski. The 47-year-old Australian, who arrives from the Far East following stints with Shimizu S-Pulse, Montedio Yamagata, FC Tokyo and the Malaysian national team, has zero experience in English football.
The board at Salford aren’t exactly patient and Cklamovski, who’s the club’s sixth permanent manager since 2020, will be under pressure from the off. With that managerial uncertainty a major factor, Salford aren’t all that backable in the League Two outright stakes, with more sensible alternatives on offer elsewhere.

Bristol Rovers – a better bet at 8/1?
Rovers finished the previous campaign like a freight train, winning ten of their final 12 fixtures in League Two under Steve Evans to secure a stable mid-table finish in 14th position.
Evans, who was appointed in December 2025, is preparing for his first full season at the Memorial Stadium, and Rovers have been busy with their prep work in the transfer market, securing double-figure additions.
Among them are central defender Kofi Balmer, who rejoins the club permanently from Motherwell, having spent the back end of last season on loan, while tricky winger Bobby Kamwa signs on from Exeter, choosing the Pirates over a long list of other suitors.
Bristol Rovers suffered just one loss from February onwards last term, though the trick, of course, is to carry that form into the new season.
That isn’t guaranteed, however, optimism around the Mem is high and it doesn’t take much convincing to back them at 8/1 in the outright League Two markets, especially with LiveScoreBet paying out each way up to three places.

Chesterfield – Spireites in the conversation at 14/1
Chesterfield lost fewer matches (9) than any team that finished outside the three automatic promotion berths in League Two last season, though they fell short in the Playoff Semis against Notts County, failing to score in both legs against the Magpies.
Blanking twice when it mattered would have stung experienced boss Paul Cook badly and the 59-year-old has been busy adding more firepower to his squad over the summer.
Winger Josh Koroma, who was brought in on loan from Leyton Orient, has performed at this level before, while the signing of Fraser Bryden from Northern Ireland’s Crusaders also looks smart. The 22-year-old hit 23 goals in the Irish Premiership last year.
Crucially, key performers from last year, Lee Bonis, Tom Naylor, Dilan Markanday and Liam Mandeville have also been retained, giving Chesterfield’s squad a rounded, balanced and formidable overall look. At 14/1, the Spireites provide obvious value.

Other contenders
Barnet - 9/1 – Barnet are currently third-favourites to win League Two, however, they lost Ryan Glover and Callum Stead among others over the summer, players who chipped in 28 goal contributions between them last term. They finished strongly and finished just outside the playoff spots (8th) in May, however, a high number of outgoings and incomings has made Barnet something of an unknown quantity and they are best avoided in the market until we figure them out.
Port Vale - 12/1 – Relegated from League One, Port Vale cleared the decks in ruthless style over the summer, with 15 players departing in one way or another. The club have done plenty of shopping of their own too, signing the likes of Jackson Smith, Max Watters and Lewis Montsma, though their complete retooling makes them difficult to assess for the most part. Now, manager Paul Brady is tasked with building chemistry quickly, however, Vale could be slow starters until relationships form.
York City - 14/1 – York are back in the English Football League after a decade-long hiatus, though they sacked the man who got them there, Stuart Maynard, just three months after clinching the National League title. That decision has left everyone scratching their heads and leaves new boss Scott Lindsey with a very tough act to follow. Still, York are fancied by many to go strong again following their 108-point and 114-goal season in 2025/26. Ollie Pearce and Josh Stones, who scored 52 times between them last term, are still there, though key defensive leader Malachi Fagan-Walcott has left for Hearts. A title tilt is surely beyond City as things stand.
