  • Four-time World Cup winners Italy face a tricky tie away to Bosnia & Herzegovina

  • Denmark visit Czech Republic, who were unbeaten at home in qualifying

  • Sweden, who missed out on the 2022 World Cup, play host to Poland

The World Cup finals are just one win away for the eight teams contesting the World Cup play-off finals on Tuesday night.

We have predictions for all four of the crucial matches, with Italy, Denmark, Turkey and Sweden among the teams looking to book their tickets to the summer spectacular in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Bosnia & Herzegovina vs Italy (Tuesday, 7.45pm)

Italy have been missing from the last two World Cup finals and they have not had a trouble-free qualification this time either.

The Azzurri lost home and away to Norway in their group and, while they came through their home semi-final against Northern Ireland with a 2-0 win in Bergamo, they did not dominate the match, which was goalless at half-time.

Bosnia's only qualifying defeat came at home to Austria, but they kept alive their hopes of a first World Cup appearance for 12 years with a shootout success over Wales after veteran striker Edin Dzeko's late goal earned them a 1-1 draw in Cardiff.

Italy have won their last two away games in Estonia and Moldova and should be good enough to squeeze through this tricky test.

Score prediction: Bosnia & Herzegovina 1-2 Italy

Czech Republic vs Denmark (Tuesday, 7.45pm)

Czech Republic staged a fantastic recovery to come back from 2-0 down against the Republic of Ireland on Thursday before winning a shootout in Prague and their excellent home record suggests more than 90 minutes may be required again when Denmark visit.

The Czechs have not been beaten in any of their last 17 home matches and, while they recently made a coaching change, they are not without hope against a Denmark side who have won only two of their last seven away matches.

The Danes blew their chance of automatic qualification with a 4-2 defeat by Scotland and this is a tougher test than their 4-0 semi-final victory over North Macedonia.

Score prediction: Czech Republic 2-2 Denmark

Kosovo vs Turkey (Tuesday, 7.45pm)

Kosovo are dreaming of a first World Cup finals appearance after an entertaining 4-3 win in Slovakia on Thursday but they may be outclassed by a talented Turkey team in Pristina.

The home side beat Sweden home and away in their qualifying group, but still finished behind Switzerland.

Turkey have not qualified for the finals since they finished third in 2002, but their last five matches have produced four wins and a 2-2 draw with Spain.

After beating Romania 1-0 last Thursday they should be up to this challenge.

Score prediction: Kosovo 1-3 Turkey

Sweden vs Poland (Tuesday, 7.45pm)

Sweden finished bottom of their World Cup qualifying group, but their Nations League performance earned them another chance, which they seized with a 3-1 win over Ukraine as Viktor Gyokeres scored a hat-trick.

Alexander Isak is unavailable to manager Graham Potter, though and their terrible run in the autumn is a concern.

Poland finished second to the Netherlands in their group before a 2-1 home win over Albania in their semi-final and they are unbeaten in seven matches this season, winning five.

Score prediction: Sweden 1-2 Poland
