Town might lose at The Hive Stadium, though BTTS has landed in all three of their competitive fixtures so far this term, and Cheltenham can score again.

Port Vale vs Crewe Alexandra (Saturday, 12:30 pm)
Port Vale’s slow start to the campaign continued last weekend when they were held to a 1-1 draw by plucky Tranmere. Jon Brady’s side remain winless after two games in the league, following on from their 3-0 Carabao Cup defeat at Wolves.
Crewe meanwhile, are in second spot after successive 1-0 wins over Crawley and Northampton. They showed steel to hold off the recently-relegated Cobblers at Sixfields last weekend and they could set up to frustrate again against a Port Vale side who’ve also just dropped down a division.

Rotherham United vs Chesterfield (Saturday, 1:00 pm)
Rotherham’s search for a first win continues after they drew 1-1 with York last time out in a game of two halves. The visitors dominated the first 45 before Rotherham roused themselves and nearly snatched a victory in the second. Millers boss Alex Bruce will be concerned about his team’s output in the final third having seen his players score only once in three games on the spin.
Just as we predicted, Chesterfield upset the odds to win at Salford last weekend, with Lee Bonis’s two-minute opener proving decisive. Paul Cook’s troops had just 37% possession against the Ammies, but countered with precision and the Spireites can use the same gameplan to triumph at the New York AESSEAL Stadium.

Colchester United vs Rochdale (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Colchester were on the road to ruin against Oldham last weekend before their visitors picked up a red card in added time at the end of the first half. After the interval, Colchester put the foot down and eventually forced a late comeback win (2-1) thanks to a 94th-minute Lewis Temple own goal.
Danny Cowley’s U’s should be buoyed after that dramatic victory and they are favoured to see off newly-promoted Rochdale. The Dale were second best against Crawley (1-2) last week and even worse against Newport (0-3) before that, and they already look like early relegation candidates. Rochdale are easy to oppose here.

Crawley Town vs Bristol Rovers (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Red Devils boss Colin Kazim-Richards thought his team’s performance was “top” against Rochdale (2-1) last weekend, though they still needed a late Louie Watson penalty to topple their uninspiring hosts. Crawley will need to up their game to produce something similar against Bristol Rovers.
The Pirates had a whopping 29 shots and manufactured 3.99 in xG in a big win over Newport (5-3) last weekend. They’ve now scored at least twice in all three competitive fixtures since the summer in league and cup, and their firepower could be too hot for Crawley to handle. With Swiss striker Fabrizio Cavegn looking particularly sharp, Rovers could outgun their hosts.

Gillingham vs Northampton Town (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Gillingham are struggling to convert chances into goals in the campaign’s opening exchanges. They drew a blank against Walsall (0-3) on the opening weekend and failed to score again in a 0-0 stalemate with Fleetwood when last seen.
Northampton have been similarly toothless, failing to score in four successive games across three competitions since the summer, with their 1-0 loss at Crewe last weekend their latest flop in the final third. Goals could be at a premium again when these goal-shy outfits collide at Priestfield Stadium.

Grimsby Town vs Fleetwood Town (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Grimsby dug in for a point in a largely uneventful draw at Walsall (0-0) last weekend to maintain their unbeaten start in League Two. The Mariners only conceded two shots on target in that tie and just one the week before when they pipped Exeter (1-0), so they should be tough to breach again on Saturday.
Just like their hosts, Fleetwood sit on four points after two games, scoring only once and keeping two clean sheets in encounters with Chesterfield (1-0) and Gillingham (0-0). Neither side is likely to cut loose here and last term, just two goals were scored across both meetings between the clubs in League Two. Grimsby won 1-0 on each occasion and something similar could unfold this weekend.

Newport County vs Tranmere Rovers (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Newport came flying out of the traps against Rochdale (3-0) a fortnight ago but were dismantled by a rampant Bristol Rovers last weekend (5-3), a result that gives boss Hayden Mullins plenty to mull over. However, summer recruit Shaquille Gwengwe has now scored for the second time in as many games for County, and Newport haven’t been short on threat in attack.
Like Mullins, Darrell Clarke has made a positive start in his new role at Tranmere, guiding Rovers to a 2-0 win over Shrewsbury and a 1-1 draw at Port Vale, with recent signing Tom Ince netting in the latter. With early momentum building, Tranmere could enjoy a productive jaunt over the Welsh border.

Oldham Athletic vs Swindon Town (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Oldham were a goal to the good and in command at Colchester last weekend before a red card for Gus Scott-Morriss just before half time changed the direction of flow. The Latics eventually wilted with ten men in stoppage time, however, with a full complement of players for 90 minutes, they should be a more formidable prospect at Boundary Park for the visit of Swindon.
The Robins delivered their first win of the season at Cheltenham’s (2-1) expense last time out, however, they only racked up five shots in that win, following on from the four they produced at Northampton (0-0) the week before. That lack of punch could hold them back against Oldham.

Shrewsbury Town vs Salford City (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Both Shrewsbury and Salford are in League Two’s bottom three positions following back-to-back defeats for each club in the campaign’s early throes. The markets suggest that the visiting Ammies should be favourites to triumph when the teams meet on Saturday however, with City still adjusting to new coach Peter Cklamovski’s methods, they can’t be backed with any confidence.
Shrewsbury and Salford have already met this term in the Carabao Cup, with Salop coming out on top on penalty kicks after a 1-1 draw in regulation time. City struggled to break down Salop on that occasion, despite controlling 81% of the ball, and they might find the going similarly tough at The Croud Meadow on Saturday.

Walsall vs Accrington Stanley (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Walsall have been rock-solid defensively since the summer and have kept clean sheets in each of their first four matches of the new campaign, including two League Two fixtures, one outing in the Carabao Cup against Championship side Bristol City (1-0) and another in the EFL Trophy against League One outfit Leyton Orient (0-0).
The Saddlers can lean on that solidity at the back to keep Accrington Stanley at arm’s length. The Accies failed to score and didn’t create a single big chance in last weekend’s 2-0 reverse to Exeter and they also blanked when they last visited the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium to play Walsall in January (0-0)

York City vs Exeter City
York’s 1-1 draw at Rotherham last weekend might have felt like a comedown after the rousing 3-2 triumph over Bristol Rovers in their campaign opener, however, the point gained against the Millers was more than useful, even if boss Scott Lindsey believed his team deserved all three. Still, York look well-equipped to maintain their unbeaten start when they host Exeter.
The visiting Grecians made the most of a quick start to beat Accrington Stanley at home last time out (2-0), with goals from Jack Fitzwater and Gwion Edwards inside the first 13 minutes helping them on their way. However, they’ve already lost twice on the road this term at Plymouth (0-2) in the cup and Grimsby in the league (0-1), so don’t be surprised if they’re turned over again here.
