Newport County vs Chesterfield (Friday, 7:45 pm)

Newport’s nine-game unbeaten run across all competitions came to an end at Cheltenham (0-1) last weekend, though the Exiles missed chances and a penalty in that unfortunate loss. The absence of top scorer Shaquille Gwengwe was felt by County, who will be without the suspended forward again on Saturday.

Chesterfield meanwhile, enjoyed a superb 5-1 victory over highflying Crewe last time out, with all five of those goals coming in an incredible first-half flurry. Buoyed by that, the Spireites will travel to Wales ready to attack, however, Newport are still unbeaten at home and should be competitive again.

Score prediction: Newport County 1-1 Chesterfield

Grimsby Town vs York City (Saturday, 12:30 pm)

A Harvey Rodgers screamer from 25 yards set Grimsby on their way to a fine 4-1 win at Gillingham in their last assignment. That was their first away victory of the new League Two campaign and helped the Mariners to snap a seven-game winless run in all competition. Following that display, Grimsby can carry fresh confidence into Saturday’s test.

York were well in the game at Barnet in midweek before a Hiram Boateng dismissal in the second half triggered a collapse and an eventual 3-1 defeat. City are still in fifth spot, however, they’ve now failed to win four of their last five games in League Two. York have also failed to post an away win in six attempts since their promotion and they could drop more points here.

Score prediction: Grimsby Town 1-1 York City

Port Vale vs Rochdale (Saturday, 12:30 pm)

Port Vale’s three-game unbeaten surge ended at York (0-2) last weekend, though Jon Brady’s side did bounce back in decent style in the EFL Trophy in midweek with a 5-0 win over Manchester City’s U21s. That was their fifth home win on the spin in all competitions. Indeed, Brady’s troops have yet to taste defeat at Vale Park this term.

Rochdale meanwhile, suffered their biggest league defeat of the campaign so far when they were dismantled at home by Accrington Stanley (0-5) last weekend. That was the third time in five outings in all comps where the Dale conceded at least three times. Confidence in their camp is at a low ebb, so oppose them in the Potteries.

Score prediction: Port Vale 1-0 Rochdale

Accrington Stanley vs Northampton Town (Saturday, 3:00 pm)

Tyler Walton bagged a brace as in-form Accrington pushed their unbeaten run to nine games in all competitions with a stunning 5-0 victory at Rochdale last time out. The Accies, who are haven't lost at Wham Stadium this term, are now just one point shy of the playoff positions, and Stanley will kick off Saturday’s test as favourites.

Northampton have been making progress of late and they climbed out of the League Two drop zone following last weekend’s 2-0 win over Colchester. Their matches rarely set pulses racing however, and 100% of their league fixtures since the start of the campaign have produced under 2.5 goals as a result. Margins could be similarly slim when the Cobblers visit Accrington.

Score prediction: Accrington Stanley 1-0 Northampton Town

Colchester United vs Walsall (Saturday, 3:00 pm)

Colchester’s slump continued last weekend when they were turned over at Northampton (0-2). The U’s have now gone 11 games without a win in league and cup, while they’ve also managed to score just once in their last four League Two assignments combined. Another poor result on Saturday could see them dragged into the relegation zone.

Walsall finally relinquished their unbeaten record in midweek when they were picked apart by a rampant Salford (2-4). Rattled by that, the Saddlers could be fragile on Saturday. Walsall have already drawn five times in six away fixtures in League Two since the summer and it wouldn’t be a surprise if they shared the spoils with their hosts again at Colchester.

Score prediction: Colchester United 1-1 Walsall

Crewe Alexandra vs Barnet (Saturday, 3:00 pm)

Crewe will be licking their wounds following back-to-back defeats on the road at Exeter (0-2) and Chesterfield (1-5), and they will hope for better when returning to the Mornflake Stadium on Saturday, where they have yet to lose this season. Alexandra have conceded at least twice in each of their last three league matches overall however, and the drop in their standards in defence could leave them vulnerable again.

Title-chasing Barnet got back to business with a statement win over York City (3-1) on Tuesday evening and the division’s top scorers carry enough threat in the final third to unsettle a nervous-looking Crewe. BTTS has landed in all 12 of the Bees’ league matches this season, however, so don’t expect them to leave Alexandra unscathed.

Score prediction: Crewe Alexandra 2-3 Barnet

Fleetwood Town vs Bristol Rovers (Saturday, 3:00 pm)

Fleetwood made headlines in midweek when they knocked Premier League champions Arsenal out of the Carabao Cup on penalties on a historic evening at Highbury. Town harnessed home advantage brilliantly against the Gunners and they’ve only lost once in 11 games on their own patch in all competitions since the summer.

Bristol Rovers halted a run of four successive defeats with a 0-0 draw at home to Swindon last time out, though their overall performance was limp and they almost lost in the second half. Steve Evans’s side are visibly low on confidence and if Fleetwood start quickly on Saturday, they could enjoy another positive Highbury outing.

Score prediction: Fleetwood Town 2-1 Bristol Rovers

Oldham Athletic vs Crawley Town (Saturday, 3:00 pm)

A dramatic leveller from Mike Fondop in the 94th minute allowed Oldham to snatch a point at ten-man Barnet last weekend, much to the delight of manager Micky Mellon. Boosted by that rescue act, the Latics should have renewed confidence to draw from on Saturday.

Oldham scored four times in each of their last two games at Boundary Park against Leeds Academy in the EFL Trophy and Cheltenham in League Two, though they might find it tougher to cut loose against Crawley Town. The division’s bottom club played for the first time under interim boss Kevin Blackwell last weekend and defended doggedly in a 1-1 draw with Tranmere. Oldham might have to work hard to prevail here.

Score prediction: Oldham Athletic 2-1 Crawley Town

Salford City vs Exeter City (Saturday, 3:00 pm)

League Two leaders Salford showcased their class again on Monday evening when they ended Walsall’s unbeaten start to the campaign (4-2). Luke Molyneaux’s delivery from the right flank was key again in that win and the wingback has lodged six assists in his last eight starts. The red-hot Ammies have won seven league fixtures on the bounce and they are odds-on favourites to triumph again on Saturday.

Visiting Exeter are unbeaten in five games however, and hold the division’s best defensive record, having conceded only seven times in 13 matches. Matt Taylor’s well-drilled unit will relish the chance to test their resolve at Salford, so expect the Grecians to make life hard for the table toppers at the AIG Stadium.

Score prediction: Salford City 1-0 Exeter

Shrewsbury Town vs Gillingham (Saturday, 3:00 pm)

Shrewsbury came from two down to take the lead but still had to settle for a point after a chaotic 3-3 draw at Rotherham last weekend. Kian McMahon-Brown was sent off against the Millers and joins suspended pair Isaac Fletcher and Jay Turner-Cooke on the sidelines. Despite their indiscipline, the Shrews have won three and drawn one of their last four games in league and cup.

A home date with struggling Gillingham looks like an opportunity to maintain their forward momentum. The Gills lost 4-1 at home to Grimsby last weekend. That result was a shocker and they’ve now failed to win five times in their last six attempts in League Two. More disappointment could be in the works at The Croud Meadow.

Score prediction: Shrewsbury Town 2-1 Gillingham

Swindon Town vs Rotherham United (Saturday, 3:00 pm)

The pressure has eased on Swindon boss Ian Holloway after a three-game unbeaten stretch. Holloway’s decision to switch to a back three system has been reaping rewards and the Robins looked solid at the back again when they picked up a useful point at Bristol Rovers (0-0) last weekend.

Rotherham meanwhile have gone six games in League Two without a victory, though they did show improving incision in the final third in last weekend’s 3-3 draw with Shrewsbury. The Millers have failed to score in three of their last four matches on the road however, and they might struggle to penetrate Swindon’s reworked defensive unit.

Score prediction: Swindon Town 1-0 Rotherham United

Back Under 2.5 Goals in Swindon Town vs Rotherham United at 1/1 with LiveScore Bet

Tranmere Rovers vs Cheltenham Town (Saturday, 3:00 pm)

Tranmere’s issues in the final third were laid bare again in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with bottom club Crawley. Rovers have now scored just one goal in each of their last four league fixtures and subsequently dropped points in three of the same games. Manager Daryll Clarke will be targeting improvement in that department on Saturday.

Cheltenham are flying high in third, but have only won once on the road this term. They collected just one of the last nine away points on offer in League Two, scoring only once from open play in the process. With Town unreliable travellers and Tranmere short on firepower, a low-scoring skirmish is likely on Merseyside.

Score prediction: Tranmere Rovers 1-1 Cheltenham Town
