When will the England squad be announced? Thomas Tuchel to make selection for Nations League games

England return to action for the first time since the World Cup with four Nations League games during the upcoming, newly extended international break.
It’s almost time for Thomas Tuchel to announce his squad, so here’s everything you need to know…
When will the England squad be announced?
The England squad for latest round of international fixtures is due to be announced on Friday, 18th September at 10am BST.
Tuchel is then set to hold a press conference at 11am BST.
Who will be in the England squad?
Given players have only been back in action for their clubs for around a month, and the fact England finished third at this summer’s World Cup – their best finish since lifting the trophy in 1966 – one would expect the squad to remain largely the same as that which went to the tournament.
However, one star who seems almost certain to return is Cole Palmer – who missed the World Cup after an uncharacteristically poor 2025/26 campaign but has made a fine start to the new season with Chelsea.

Tuchel may also consider a recall for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has scored four goals in Leeds’ first six games of 2026/27 – including a brace in Monday’s 4-1 Premier League win over Newcastle.
A number of uncapped players have begun the campaign in impressive form – among them Leeds wing-back Jayden Bogle, Fulham midfielder Joshua King and Bournemouth winger Marcus Tavernier.
There are a couple of worries on the injury front, both concerning World Cup squad members, with Inter centre-back John Stones confirmed to miss out and Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson expected to be sidelined until after the international break.
Who are England playing in the next international break?
England begin their Nations League A Group 1 campaign by welcoming reigning world and European champions Spain to Wembley.
The Three Lions then face Czechia in Prague and Croatia in Rijeka, before hosting Czechia back at Wembley.
