The Frenchman is focused solely on Sevilla and bears no grudge after leaving AC Milan in the summer

His move to Sevilla from AC Milan near the end of last summer's transfer window initially left him speechless. Now, after taking firm control of the Sevilla midfield and convincing everyone of the merits of that much-discussed deal, Youssouf Fofana has plenty to say.

Speaking to El Pais, the French midfielder said he holds no grudge over the summer decision, though he stressed that the matter could have been handled differently.

Was out of the squad

Fofana was on Ruben Amorim's list of players to axe on returning from the summer tour. AC Milan no longer considered the Frenchman useful to their project. They put him up for sale and left him out of the squad alongside David Odogu, Christopher Nkunku and Fikayo Tomori. Tomori returned to the squad after failing to leave by the end of the summer.

Sevilla really wanted me

"It all happened very quickly. I didn't have time to think, but one thing mattered: Sevilla really wanted me. I didn't want to keep waiting at AC Milan because I knew I wouldn't play. I go where I'm wanted and where they have faith in me."

It could have been handled differently...

"My departure from AC Milan? There were other ways to handle the situation, but they chose their own way and there are no hard feelings. Today we’re all happy: I’m at Sevilla and they have the team they wanted."
