“We need to be more mature” – De Winter admits Milan must work on ‘details’
Koni De Winter believes that AC Milan need to be ‘more mature’ in certain moments, such as the one that led to Sassuolo’s goal.
De Winter was left out of the starting line-up by the head coach Ruben Amorim, who prefered to give Matteo Gabbia a start down the middle. However, the Italian was stretchered off in the first half with what looked like a serious muscle issue, which meant the Belgian replaced him.
It looked like Milan were on the right track when Adrien Rabiot scored the opener just after the hour mark, but then a sting in the tail came when Odenthal bundled in a corner from close range to equalise, and the score would remain 1-1.
De Winter spoke to TeleLombardia (via MilanNews) after the full-time whistle to offer his assessments on what was a bittersweet night for the Rossoneri, who remain unbeaten but dropped more points to fall further behind the leaders.
A message for Gabbia…
“I don’t know what happened yet, but I hope he makes a good and quick recovery: we’re waiting for him.”
Is there any regret about the goal conceded from a corner?
“Yes, of course. In phases like this, we need to be more mature and try not to concede goals. Matches are also decided on details like these.”
Is there bitterness about the lack of concentration after scoring a goal?
“We’re disappointed because we dropped points. We try to win every game, and that’s where the disappointment comes from.”
After six games, however, you are still undefeated…
“We gave it our all. Let’s learn from this match and move on to the next one. It’s still early in the season, and there are still a lot of games to go.”
Now there’s the Europa League, you have to get a result in Salzburg…
“It’s always nice to play. We have a lot of games now, and we’re trying to stay as healthy as possible. Let’s keep going as we’re doing.”
