AC Milan have some questions for the referee who officiated their game against Salzburg last night, as two similar situations had very different outcomes.

It was a comfortable evening for Milan in Austria, scoring two goals in each half to clinch an important 4-0 win. They are definitely back on track as far as finishing in the top eight is concerned and there were many other positives to take from the game too.

Of course, it wasn’t all fantastic. Filippo Terracciano came off the bench and was sent off not too long after, which resulted in Ruben Amorim throwing a bottle to the ground. It’s also a call by the referee that has left Milan with some questions.

Should it have been a penalty?

As pointed out by some fans on social media, while the red card is understandable, Milan had a similar situation at the other end but didn’t receive anything. Omar Hutchinson made the run into the box and was pushed, but the referee waved play on.

No penalty, no red card, nothing. It didn’t have an impact on the outcome of the game, as Milan even managed to keep the clean sheet, but the officiating was questionable overall. This was just a very clear example of how there wasn’t really any consistency.
