Watch: Milan survive late barrage to win five-goal thriller vs. Atalanta – the highlights
AC Milan survived a late onslaught from Atalanta to hang on and secure their third home win in three to begin the Serie A season.
After 65 minutes, things were going so well. Goncalo Ramos had given Milan the lead with a first-half penalty before Adrien Rabiot bagged his fourth of the campaign to double the advantage, then Mario Gila headed home after Ramos failed to convert a spot kick.
It was 3-0 with an hour on the clock and it looked like being a potential rout, but then it was like a switch flicked. Gianluca Gaetano gave Atalanta some hope with a goal off the bench, and it was a one-goal game in the 81st minute when Nikola Krstovic scored.
Mike Maignan made a huge late save to deny Davide Zappacosta as the Rossoneri rode their luck right until the end, but they did eventually hang on to secure three points from a five-goal roller coaster.
