Watch: Lazio Held at Maradona as Pedraza Gifts a Goal to Napoli – The Highlights
Lazio saw their six-match winning streak come to an end as they settled for an away draw with Napoli in Sunday’s early Serie A kickoff.
Lazio Were Dangerous From the Outset
Gustav Isaksen had the opportunity to score 50 seconds into the game after dispossessing Rafa Marin in a dangerous area, but his shot whistled past the far post. 15 minutes later, Nuno Tavares’ corner kick found Josip Sutalo, whose bouncing header seemed to be heading in, but Vanja Milinkovic-Savic produced a superb diving save.
Davide Frattesi Finishes Off Super Lazio Counter
The Biancocelesti’s dominance eventually paid off, as they managed to break the deadlock in the 28th minute through a perfect counter-attack. Tijjani Noslin drove the ball forward, waited for Davide Frattesi to storm into the box before feeding him with an inch-perfect through ball. The Italian’s first-time shot went just above Milinkovic-Savic’s shoulder.
Napoli almost responded in the 39th minute. Mathias Olivera received a ball from Noa Lang on the byline and sent it into the goalmouth. Christos Mandas parried it away, but it ricocheted off Rasmus Hojlund and almost crossed the line. The Greek custodian reacted swiftly, grabbing the ball in the nick of time.
Alfonso Pedraza Scores an Own Goal
After the restart, Alfonso Pedraza replaced the physically struggling Nuno Tavares, and he ended up scoring an own goal after three minutes. The Spaniard found himself defending a cross alone against Hojlund and Scott McTominay, and his clumsy touch left Mandas with no chance.
The Partenopei had several chances to win the game, but Olivera’s shot went too high, while Reda Belahyane pulled off a goal-line clearance to deny Kevin De Bruyne. As for Lorenzo Lucca, his attempt was too tame to trouble Mandas.
In the end, Lazio failed to extend their winning streak, but they will head into the November international break unbeaten and top of the table.
