Video: Zaccagni Steers Lazio to Victory in Venezia – The Highlights

The official Lazio YouTube channel uploaded the highlights from the club’s away victory over Venezia on Saturday night.

Venezia Squandered a Penalty

The visitors had the first chance of the match courtesy of their captain Mattia Zaccagni, who came close with a free-kick. After 15 minutes, the home side was awarded a penalty as Christos Mandas brought down Thierry Correira inside the box after a poor header from Romano Floriani Mussolini. However, the Greek goalkeeper made amends by denying John Yeboah.

Mandas followed it up with a string of excellent saves on Simon Sohm, Akor Adams, and Antoine Hainaut. Lazio regained their balance before the interval, as Kenneth Taylor and Matteo Cancellieri tried their luck from long range, but failed to hit the target.

Lazio only needed five minutes to take the lead after the break. Yeboah clipped Taylor, who earned the Biancocelesti a spot-kick that was experetly converted by Zaccagni.

Reda Belahyane almost added an instant second after a give-and-go with Tijjani Noslin, but his attempt sailed wide. However, it was the Dutch striker who ended up on the scoresheet for the second week in a row. Zaccagni and Nuno Tavares combined well on the left wing, and the latter sent a delicate cross to the mouth of goal, which was guided home by Noslin.

The final 30 minutes witnessed very few chances at either end of the pitch, although Manuel Lazzari had a promising attempt from distance. In the end, Lazio returned to the capital with three points that allowed them to catch Roma and Inter Milan at the summit, as the two sides had played out a 2-2 draw earlier in the day.
