Video: Lazio fans embrace team with love before big Napoli match
Lazio fans are banned from attending tomorrow’s match with Napoli, so they gathered in their thousands at the station to see Gennaro Gattuso and his players off.
It kicks off at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Sunday at 11.30 GMT (12.30 CET).
There won’t be Biancocelesti supporters in the arena, as a history of violence between the sets of fans has made this a high-risk fixture, so the local authorities banned the sale of tickets to anyone in the Eternal City.
Lazio fans wave team off
With that in mind, and considering also that ultras have been boycotting the home matches for over a year in protest at President Claudio Lotito, they put on a show of love for the team that is currently on top of the Serie A table.
Thousands of fans gathered at the Stazione Termini in Rome to see off the squad as they travel by train towards Naples.
They waved banners, flags and set off fireworks to celebrate the players and coach Gattuso for the club’s best ever start to a Serie A season.
Some players struggled to even make their way through the crowd without getting crushed by the affection of the supporters.
