USMNT Serie A match day 7 recap: Christian Pulisic quiet, Yunus Musah leads in AC Milan win
There aren't a lot of Americans currently playing in Serie A, but the USMNT players in Italy are undoubtedly important ones. With the international break over and the European leagues back in full swing, it's good to keep tabs on the key USMNT players in Serie A. Here is a look at how those players performed over the weekend on match day 7 in Italy.
Weston McKennie, Juventus
Not even McKennie could save Juventus from a dreadful 3-0 loss to Lazio, with goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario having a nightmare game. McKennie played a more central role than in recent weeks, creating one chance and making seven defensive contributions. He played 90 minutes, winning five of his seven ground duels, but struggled to help Juventus generate scoring chances in a sluggish team performance.
Christian Pulisic, AC Milan
It was a relatively quiet day for Pulisic, who started in Milan’s 3-2 win over Atalanta. He appeared to score an early goal, but had it chopped off for offside. In 75 minutes of action, Pulisic only had three touches in the opposing box and didn’t create any chances. After taking some time to get into the Milan starting lineup this season, one has to wonder if he’ll be able to keep that spot.
Yunus Musah, AC Milan
Musah had a far more productive day in Milan’s win. He also played 75 minutes, playing alongside Luke Modric in the midfield, which certainly makes things easier. Musah took a shot that resulted in a penalty for Milan, which was converted for the team’s first goal of the game. He was also 54 of 55 on his passing accuracy, winning four of his five duels, and making five defensive contributions. It was an all-around good performance by the midfielder and a reminder of why he’s been such a key cog in the Milan midfield this season despite his failure to stand out during the last international window.
Gianluca Busio, Venezia
Busio remains sidelined with a thigh injury he picked up last month. By all accounts, he’s on track to return by the end of October. However, that may not be enough time for him to push for a roster spot in November. Nevertheless, he’s someone who shouldn’t be forgotten. Before the injury, Busio was one of Venezia’s best players. Without him, the club got its first win of the season on Saturday, but they desperately need him back.
