Gerry Cardinale is continuing the search for a new Head of Football to complete AC Milan’s management, and a new name has emerged.

According to Tuttosport, the idea of hiring Markus Krösche from Eintracht Frankfurt has now been ‘definitively abandoned’. So, names old and new are once again circulating that could be considered viable candidates for the role.

Cardinale wants the Head of Football/technical director to act as a liaison between himself, Ruben Amorim and the squad, assisting in the day-to-day management of things at Milanello. They will of course lead the transfer planning too.

One candidate who would welcome the opportunity to work at Milan is Mehdi Benatia. The former Roma and Juventus defender – who was last the sporting director of Olympique Marseille – is eager to embark on a new adventure in Italy.

The other names

He’s not the only name on the list. This summer, Devin Ozek and José Boto – the architect of the super Flamengo team that won the last Brazilian title and the Copa Libertadores – were also explored. Flamengo currently lead the league again though, and are in the Libertadores final four.

The position left vacant by Igli Tare following his dismissal at the end of May is certainly tempting, and it’s not out of the question that other potential candidates could emerge and be evaluated by Cardinale himself, who will always be the man making the final decisions.

The summer window was led by Hendrik Almstadt and Bobby Gardiner – who were internally promoted – as well as working with Jorge Mendes. The agent brought Gonçalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain and Diego Moreira from Strasbourg.

Cardinale, however, intend to find a figure who can relieve him of some day-to-day tasks, while also working in harmony with both him and Amorim. The coach is expecting some signings for the January window that were not made this summer.
