“That’s the truth” – Manna admits Gila was first choice for Napoli in the summer
Before joining AC Milan, Mario Gila was already seen as one of the best defenders in Italy. Now, it has only become clearer.
There is a genuine case to be made that Gila is Milan’s best player. The Spaniard has made a significant impact on the backline, both defensively and offensively. As good a defender as he is an outlet, it appears the Rossoneri have struck gold.
In the summer, it seemed like the price paid was something of a bargain, now that has only been reaffirmed. He’s quickly become a core part of the defence and only injuries have stopped him from being the first name on the teamsheet.
Considering he’s allowed Ruben Amorim to be more versatile with his team, too, the praise for him cannot be high enough.
Manna admits to Gila pursuit
Now, speaking to Sky Sport, Giovanni Manna has looked at Napoli’s failure to sign him. Massimiliano Allegri was a big fan of his last season, hence the push to sign him in the summer, but he wasn’t able to, as MilanVibes relays.
“We tried to sign Gila at the beginning, that’s the truth and it’s something we all know. It was a bit of a tempting situation, let’s say, but we just didn’t have the right timing, the right moments. Milan were good and quick and managed to please everyone.”
