Start attempt or super sub: Amorim faces Moreira dilemma ahead of Milan-Lecce

Ruben Amorim has yet to decide whether to start Diego Moreira against Lecce or not, weighing up the pros and cons against his current super-sub role.

Since his arrival from Strasbourg in the summer, Moreira has made three appearances for Milan: one from start and two off the bench. The one from start was arguably his worst, failing to make things happen on the right-hand side.

In the games he came off the bench, however, he was much more successful helping the Rossoneri in attack. The brace against Lazio obviously stands out, but even against Benfica, it was very clear that he added a lot of pace to the game.

From start or not?

As highlighted by today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport, against Lecce tonight, Ruben Amorim remains unsure whether to start the Belgian or keep him as a weapon off the bench. However, when you consider the Rossoneri’s first-half struggles, you could argue there is only one answer.

Indeed, against the Via del Mare side, having Moreira’s sprints and willingness to get forward straight away would perhaps be more useful. Pervis Estupinan is currently the favourite to start and no complex tactical explanations are needed to understand that he will offer a lot less in attack.

Moreira would be the necessary boost, as the newspaper concludes, but Amorim also knows that the Belgian is one of the few players in his squad capable of turning a game around. That’s the dilemma.
