Spalletti’s Juventus touchline role in doubt after Cagliari draw
Luciano Spalletti and Fabio Pisacane were sent off after a tense touchline exchange following Cagliari’s 1-1 draw with Juventus, leaving both coaches facing possible suspensions.
Daniel Maldini gave Cagliari the lead in the 20th minute, and Juventus had to wait until the 81st for Randal Kolo Muani to equalise. The Bianconeri finished with 70 per cent possession and 21 shots on goal, but could not turn that dominance into a winning goal.
Both coaches dismissed after full time
According to Football Italia, Spalletti approached Pisacane after the customary post-match handshake, and the exchange grew heated. Colleagues separated the coaches before referee Matteo Marcenaro showed both men a red card.
Virgilio also reported that tensions flared between the two benches after the final whistle. The dismissals followed a frustrating evening for Juventus, who had spent much of the match chasing Cagliari’s early advantage before finally drawing level.
Possible bans depend on the cards being upheld
Football Italia reports that both coaches are expected to receive one-match suspensions if their red cards are upheld. In that event, Spalletti would miss Juventus’ home fixture against Lazio, while Pisacane would be absent for Cagliari’s trip to Monza.
Those consequences are not yet confirmed: the available reports make the suspensions conditional on the dismissals standing. They do not establish the length of any final sanction, and no financial penalties for either club have been confirmed.
For Juventus, the immediate concern is whether Spalletti will be available on the touchline against Lazio. Until the red card is upheld and the sanction is specified, that absence remains a possibility rather than a settled outcome. The same uncertainty applies to Pisacane ahead of Cagliari’s next away match.
