Lazio head coach Gennaro Gattuso will have to do without Adam Marusic for at least another week due to an injury relapse.

Lazio Have Been Without Adam Marusic Since Late August

The Montenegrin sustained a muscle strain on the opening day of the Serie A campaign against Bologna. He made way for Romano Floriani Mussolini, who has started at right-back ever since. The 33-year-old even missed the Aquile’s two international break friendlies against Arezzo and Juve Stabia, but he was expected to return this weekend against Monza.

But according to Il Messaggero, Marusic suffered a setback while pushing to make himself available for Sunday’s game. He is now expected to remain on the sidelines at least until the following contest against Juventus on October 18. It remains to be seen whether he’ll be fit enough to make the trip to Turin.

In the meantime, Gattuso will continue to rely on Floriani Mussolini, who produced impressive displays this season, despite his recent blunder in Venice, which resulted in a spot-kick for Venezia (later saved by Christos Mandas). Lazio also have a backup for the 23-year-old in the shape of Manuel Lazzari, who was placed on the shortlist in the summer, but failed to seal a move.
