The refereeing incident that opened Sassuolo-Lazio.

Less than 2 minutes had passed in Sassuolo-Lazio when furious protests erupted. After Taylor scored the goal that broke the deadlock, Sassuolo appealed to referee Zufferli, arguing that Davide Frattesi was clearly offside and in front of Turati.

The goal stood after a lengthy VAR check, but what happened during the 3-minute stoppage?

Frattesi jumps to avoid the ball

Taylor plays the ball to Isaksen down the right. A defender in black and green blocks his low cross, and the ball falls to Taylor, who shoots across goal and beats Turati. But Davide Frattesi is clearly offside inside the penalty area and in the ball's path. He jumps to avoid touching it.

Marelli: “It has no impact”

Marelli twice gave his view of the incident: "In my view, the goal should stand. Frattesi is in an offside position and in the six-yard box, but he is not in the goalkeeper’s line of sight; he is to his right, so he does not affect the Sassuolo goalkeeper’s ability to intervene in the slightest."
