Roma’s Wesley out of Brazil squad after thigh strain

Wesley’s difficult relationship with the Brazil national team continues, with the Roma full-back withdrawing from Carlo Ancelotti’s squad through injury.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the Brazilian federation confirmed the news while announcing the call-up of Monaco’s Vanderson, stating that the player replaces an injured Wesley.

The wing-back played the full 90 minutes of Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Inter at the Olimpico and has since reported a strain in his right thigh.

Roma midfielder Cristante also a doubt for Italy

It is another blow for a player who missed the World Cup through injury and had only recently been recalled by Ancelotti, his former club coach, for the Seleção’s upcoming friendlies.

Wesley will now stay at Trigoria, where captain Bryan Cristante may join him. Named in Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad for the Nations League, Cristante came off against Inter with fatigue and is in doubt.

Gian Piero Gasperini will use the break to rest Paulo Dybala after a heavy early workload, while Lorenzo Pellegrini builds fitness having only recently returned to full training.
